Sandbox Phuket

I am currently in the sandbox Phuket, and would like to report how well the Thais have organized it. okay the COE with all that sucks.

But when you arrive in HKT everything runs very well and thought out. from getting off the machine to leave the airport it took me about 35 minutes.
The other PCR tests are also organized in an exemplary manner.
The fact that I need a total of 4 PCR tests to get to get out the sandbox and go to Cha-Am I leave uncommented.

Python, I have no doubt it will be very well organised, and TAT will be striving to make it a success.

I've know quite a few people use the system, and have been happy with it. However, those I know are using Phuket as a transit point on their way back into Thailand to live again, rather than endure 15 nights imprisonment in a Bangkok Quarantine Hotel. Of course, I don't know any people who have just used Phuket as a holiday destination under Sandbox.

I don't expect precise numbers, but what is your gut feeling about % of returnees as opposed to % of real holiday makers.

Hi Python,

I want to endorse your comments, as I have also found the scheme well run. The staff are very enthusiastic at prodding things up the nose.
OK, my covid tests added another 9,000 Baht to my costs, but the hotel I'm staying at in Patong is much less than I previously paid.
I've reached day seven and so, have another seven to go. From the people I have met, I think only 30% are genuine tourists, with the rest having reasons to travel onwards in Thailand.
Python, Have you figured out how to get back to Cha-am? My next sandbox challenge!

Well in my Hotel some arabic familys arrived, so tourists for holiday, i guess. And in 'Testcenter for PCR Test same, Clanfamily, 6-10 member.

And young western couples as well, so maybe 60% holiday makers.

I ordered my taxi from Cha-Am to pick me up at the checkpoint before the bridge to Phuket.

I'm curious to know how much the taxi will cost. The normal price is between 11 - 12,000 baht.

"My" cab driver in Cha-am I know for 16 years, very reliable. But he is indispensable and sends me a good friend, for this I voluntarily give 500 baht agency commission.
The driver I pay an overnight stay in the amount of 500 baht, and 6000 baht for the trip. Furthermore, I take over / pay for a full tank of gas.
so that is 7000 Baht + one time refueling. I think my offer is fair, and it was accepted.

My alternative was a rental car rental Patong, drop off in Hua Hin for 3 days for 157.61 €.
Booking via Internet. EconomyBookings Budget.

Very good deal. Just consider what a similar taxi trip would cost back home.

Right, but not really compareble. How much is our minimum salary? Our average wage? 1 Liter gasonline or diesel?

Its a deal, both of us are happy.

I know that. It wasn't meant to be anything more than a comparison for your own pocket. No intention of a geo-political or economic statement.
Sometimes a simple question is just that. No reason for any deep analysis!

Sounds a good deal Phyton, I'm keeping my eyes on flights, hoping they become operational before I leave.
