If MS decided to force me into buying a new computer, I'd buy a google machine.buksida wrote: ↑Tue Jul 13, 2021 7:47 am There already are component shortages, hence the local price hikes for hardware.
Just like with XP, there will be a reluctance to leave Win10, and I don't think millions will be rushing into what appears to be a sideways upgrade to Windows 11 - unless M$ forces them into it in a practice which is becoming the norm these days.

And Google will do exactly the same with its Android updates that don't work on old machines!handdrummer wrote: ↑Tue Jul 13, 2021 3:17 pm If MS decided to force me into buying a new computer, I'd buy a google machine.

So Apple it is
Re: Windows 11
Is it MS or the manufacturers or both driving this? Is TPM really necessary for home use computers? MS would get more royalties from new computers being sold with Windows OEM licences. But the manufacturers (computers, processors, mainboards) stand to gain from selling more computers driven by deliberate obsolescence of previous models.

I've thought about Linux and don't know which version to download and wonder about having to learn another system and how does it affect Win 10 that's on my computer and will everything be even slower with 2 OS's on my computer?
Obviously, I don't know much about the digital world but I'm stuck in it and would like to make it as simple as possible for someone who bangs on things with his hands and 2 sticks.

Windows 11, the latest version of Microsoft's computer operating system, launches worldwide on Tuesday as a free upgrade for Windows 10 users.
Windows chief product officer Panos Panay, told the BBC the latest version was built to be "clean and fresh and simpler" for the user.
He promised that the new operating system would not be an "extreme departure" from what people know.
And even the least tech-savvy users can upgrade easily, he added.... (Continued at link)

Re: Windows 11
I have been using Windows 11 since the beginning of July. No problems whatsoever. It is much faster than Windows 10, looks better and is easier to use. It is beyond me why people refuse to update if their hardware is adequate. To expect manufacturers to keep supporting outdated hardware is absolutely ridiculous. If extra levels of code or security extensions have to be added for outdated hardware then EVERYONE suffers in terms of speed and the number of bugs.
Re: Windows 11
I just installed it this morning as I have a relatively new computer.
Loving it so far.

Re: Windows 11
I must say, I don't know of anybody who is refusing. However, if anybody is being cautious, it will be Microsoft's history with releases such as Windows 8. Personally, I shan't rush into the update i.e. if it's not broken, why fix it? As for speed, people keep using that as a reason - I'm an old man whose computer is already a lot faster than I am. Why do I need extra speed?
Bugs? There have always been, and always will be bugs. However, in many years of using a computer, I don't think I've ever knowingly been bothered by a bug.
If I were a big business, I'd probably consider it further, but in the UK I was part of a massive network, and we were still using XP (paying MS to keep maintaining it), looking to move to Win 7, when the rest of the world was on 8, moving to 10. Believe me, it wasn't easy trying to move

But how can Billy G. buy more US farmland & open more mines in Africa if we don't upgrade? C'mon guys and gals, help out a poor yank.
Re: Windows 11
I upgraded 24 hours ago and no problems so far. Quite the opposite.
It does seem that it's more of a cosmetic change but there are some new features I haven't seen before.
When opening YTS, I now get a message warning me that a VPN has not been detected. Good reminder if you'd forgotten. Wifi connections were a little different but soon got the hang of it. Downloading from YTS/Bitcomet is producing some phenomenal speeds. A 'slow' download comes in at under 10 mbps but some downloads are hitting 60 mbps.
Happy so far.

This is the way
Re: Windows 11
The VPN warning is on the YTS page, it has nothing to do with Windows 11 as I get it on 10.
