Looks like the tree in the background is the same species.

According to my little book it is the Salix discolor commonly called the goat willow.

My neighbours insist that this tree is a willow, but I'm not convinced. I realise there are many different varieties, but this just doesn't look... well... droopy enough! It's not a great photo, but can anyone advise?

And here she is now in all her wondrous summer glory, my beloved goat willow.

But I have devastating news... she has been condemned to death. Apparently she is leaning dangerously and threatening to plummet onto the neighbouring building. I've threatened to tie myself to the trunk, but no one seems to care...

I go and talk to her every day to prepare her for what is to come. I've told her that she's going to a better place. I don't mention that means getting chopped up and used for firewood...

Oh I'm sure DM could whittle a Wooden Spoon for England's next Six Nations!!

That said, a piece 1" thick and 500mm odd in diameter would be good - trying to mark out a Draughts/Chess Set, with Chinese Checkers on the reverse - a gameboard that brings back many memories with my now dearly departed Grandparents (have all the pieces, just the board is ..... well, old)....

Catch the bugger with the chainsaw DM - I'll buy you a few beers (or better Whisky)!

Friom the first picture is looked like the salis The second picture it is in full leaf and loos more the the Black willow. I did not know you were welsh.
