My KBank debit card had to be verified by the bank last year and I've managed to use it for Amazon and Lazada purchases since.

In fact, the verification by a bank employee was probably not necessary as I was simply taken out to an attached ATM and she ran through the necessary steps, advising me that my daily spending was limited (20K/30K, I can't remember).

I have a new Bangkok Bank Be 1st smart debit card, it doesn't have my name on it, but I have signed it on the back, it has the Rabbit logo on, as well as Thai payment networks and Union Pay logos. It has a 6 digit pin, as all new debit cards in Thailand now have. There is no Visa logo. (My Krungsri debit card does have a Visa logo) there are security numbers on the signature strip on the back. I was told by the bank that these new cards are not linked to the visa system, and cannot be used for online Visa payments.

Can I use this to withdraw cash in the UK as I would now like to run my Bangkok Bank account down?

As we've found out in this thread, everyone has different experiences with their Thai bank cards. I think the Rabbit payment system only works in Bangkok.

For me personally, the card with the Plus symbol on it works in UK ATMs - it is a silver K-bank Visa debit card and had to be authorised by the bank for overseas usage.

https://www.bangkokbank.com/en/Personal ... Smart-Card

I've just looked at the Bangkok Bank website, link above, there are 5 different types of Be1st cards, and they all have differing abilities.

The one I have will only allow me to withdraw cash in Thailand, so bang goes my plan for draining my account from the UK. It will have to wait until I return.

KBank I believe is Kasikorn Bank! I allow me to ask what kind of documentation the bank require for foreign customer to open an bank account and be issued a similar card as yours?

Thank you

Kasikorn Bank has a virtual online banking credit/debit card called K Web Shopping Card.
I use it all the time for booking flights and online shopping, never had a problem.

The required documentation depends on the branch office. Market Village has much experience with foreigners. Usually you have to show the certification letter from immigration, the same you need for driving license.

Thank you for replying. The banks up in on of the higher floors? Are they and the main building open these days? I haven't been to Market village for a few months!

2 years ago I opened a 2nd Bangkok Bank savings account. During the process, I had to choose between either a Union Pay debit card or a MasterCard debit card. Thinking the only difference was the logo on the card, I chose the Union Pay option as it was 100 baht cheaper than the MasterCard. Shortly after that I had the Union Pay card declined, repeatedly, while online shopping. After sorting it out at the bank I learned that the Union Pay card is severely restricted in which vendors accept it. I was then forced to pay the full price for a new MasterCard debit card, which has worked flawlessly ever since. For online shopping, the MasterCard debit card uses the “Verified by Visa” process where they SMS a numeric password to your phone to verify each transaction. I did have a problem remembering my new 6 digit PIN when using it at an ATM. When this happens the ATM confiscates the card after 3 attempts. When this happens, Bangkok Bank forces you to pay 100 baht for a new card, rather than simply walking outside to retrieve your card from the machine. When they issue the new card, they also deactivate the old card. This happened to me twice, and both times they deactivated my wife’s card by mistake, forcing her to also visit the bank, pay 100 baht and get a new card issued. One the third time, we got it all sorted out and used PIN numbers that we don’t forget. I was not happy with Bangkok Bank.

So far checked with Bangkok Bank, Krungsri and KBank. Bangkok Bank replied that similar card to what I have is not issued any more. Krungsri have many different card on offer and very friendly staff(dont know to much about the bank so didn't inquire further)
KBank closed as previous stated on HH forum. Friendly atmosphere all over and not seems to be a problem to open a bank account but more down to what kind of flexibility and for what/ where their Bank cards can be used by the customer. I will wait a week or two and see if KBank will open their branches again. Btw, yes I got to the Bank floor in Market Village after in/out a few lifts and some walking :|
