Bangkok Bank debit card and purchasing.

Post by huahin4ever »

Today I went shopping at both Villa Market and Tesco Lotus. I tried, as usual, to pay using my Bangkok Bank debit card, which I have done multiple times before, but this time it only ended up with errors. I used it to withdraw cash fro ATM and paid with cash.

Anybody else experienced issues paying with their card? Anyone knows what might go on with this issue?

The one and only time I tried to use my BB card in Lotus it was rejected and ended up at the ATM.

At least with this debit card paying at most large supermarkets and Home Pro etc has been no problem until today.

I’ve got exactly the same problem. Fine withdrawing cash from the ATM but online payments are all being rejected.

Tried to call BKk bank call center but have been left on hold for over 20 minutes before closing the phone. Wonder if their call center is observing a social distancing rule.

These ATM/Debit Cards do not work for online shopping but should work for in-store purchases

I've had my card rejected in Villa before, and then an hour after going to the ATM and paying cash, the payment went through to Villa. It took a month to get the money back. I have used it since, and the places it gets rejected are Banana IT, Springfield golf course and Villa.

It is a debit MasterCard. And apparently it is now working again. Used it 2 days ago in Tesco at Market Village, so the other day when it didn't work, it was most likely the in-store terminals which had some kind of issue.

Great. I'm soon applying for opening a second Bank account in Hua Hin and if I can ask, can you buy online with the mentioned card even from International online stores?

Thank you

Just for info, I have a K-bank Visa debit card which needed to be verified by Visa before it would work online - this wasn't a simple process and they had to do it in the bank. It works in overseas ATMs but not for international online shopping. I think Mastercards generally work better as my SCB one rarely has a problem and is used as a backup when the K-bank one fails.

I have not tried to use this card for online shopping. The online shopping I do here in Thailand is mainly "Cash on delivery" from sites such as Lazada, Shoppee etc.

I have also a K-bank Visa debit card and I had not to go to the bank to verify it (Pranburi). I can use it for all online shopping (also flight and hotel booking), for ATM in foreign countries and even in foreign restaurants and shops. This is cheaper than paying with a credit card or to get money from ATM and pay cash.
