Hua Hin to Prachuap by train

Post by Ms Tigger »

I wonder if someone could help please? I'm traveliing from Hua Hin To Prachuap on Sat 7th Dec. however, the online train ticket booking states that there are no trains available. I'm not sure that's correct, so is it a case of just rocking up on the day and buying a ticket from the ticket office? It's the number 43 leaving at 11.29(ish) I need to get.
Thanks for your help :D

This site says it operates daily: https://www.train36.com/train-43-timeta ... iland.html

Your other specific question about a ticket on the day from the station I can't help with. Stayed tuned.....

Unfortunately the below site says the train is full and no tickets on December 7. On this site the train is apparently known as #255 departing Hua Hin at 11:10 hours.

As an FYI, December 5 is a Thai national holiday and many may take December 6 off as well, long 4 day weekend. That could be a reason why the trains seem full during that period.

Wife travels it often. 2 southbound trains at about ± !! AM - one is 1st class = can book a seat. Other is 3rd class = no bookings, just show up - to get a seat be fast about jumping aboard, especially on weekends but as the 5th ia a holiday u can plan to stand - in a very crowded car. Thais ride for like ฿25 wife says same for falangs but she might be in error about that. Last car might be most likely but don’t sit in the roped off back section reserved for monks. It is usually late - anything from 5 minutes to an hour. Plus present new railroad construction might throw some time tables under the train. The bus is faster if in a hurry. The vans are even faster and more frequent if u don't mind the possibility of arriving at a mortuary instead of Prachuap

Thanks for the info, perhaps I should have checked on the holidays before making any plans. Looks like the train might well be out and another means the best option. Going from Cha Am to Hua Hin the day before, and was going to take train for that also, but might rethink that one as well.

Train 43 is the fast one (diesel rail car, old UK sprinter), leaves hh at 11.29, arrives pkk at 12.28. Bookable.
Train 255 is an ordinary train, leaving hh at 11.47, arrives pkk at 13.27. Non-bookable.

12 trains a day HH to Prachuap, 1st @ 11:29, last @ 23:36. Site would not let me cut & paste the actual page - need to key it in yourself. “Ordinary” means 3rd class & slow, stops everyplace, best one if u want to bring your dog and he likes to water lots of bushes

Cha-am to Hua Hin might b a fun ride and give u a chance to experience the “ordinary” (3rd class) trains with just a 25 minute ride = not too long even if standing room only. Schedule shows it leaving Cha-am at: 11:19, 13:11, & 17:24. 3ed class rickets are usually sold only within 30 minutes before the train is scheduled and do not assign a seat number + no worries about booking, just be aware you will possibly need to stand considering that it will be holiday

Thanks very much, yes, might well do that. I'm not a stranger to the Thai transport system, but my partner is, so it'll give them an experience....not sure they'd appreciate the Mad Max Minibuses though!
It's all good
