Thai tailor shops

Post by 2dandan »

Having searched for and read some historical posts re tailor shops, the advice given suggests that customers should use a Thai tailor and not the Indian tailors.

I am thinking of having a gents suit made.

Are there any Thai tailors in town which currently come recommended and what would be a ball park figure for the cost of a suit. Tailor shops in town are displaying prices from 3000 baht up. I suspect these are Indian tailor shops but I am unsure.

I think you'll find the 3,000฿ is the 'get you in' price. Once inside, they'll explain what a piece of tat the 3,000฿ suit is, and then go about selling you something you would be prepared to wear.

I'm not sure any of the usual suspects on this website are likely to own a suit! I haven't worn one for well over 20 years. I don't even own a tie...

The place we use is here:

I haven't had a suit made there, but I've had shirts and trousers made, as has my son. It is the place many Thais use for having their uniforms made. Mrs BB has had some beautiful dresses made there. We also have a lot of embroidery done there.

BB, I dropped into your tailor shop this afternoon and took a leap of faith.

I dont speak Thai and the tailor doesnt speak English but through sign language and photos he knows what I want. I decided to place an order. All measurements now taken and I return next week for a first fitting.

We've used him for over 7 years now, and haven't been disappointed yet.

His daughter can speak enough English. Don't do what I did, and step on the cat - I don't think they've forgiven me yet  Whenever I go now, the cat is scooped up and put into another room.

On my annual visit two years ago, I found a thai tailors workshop in Poolsuk north of Dechanuit. I showed him a picture I had taken of a Blazer in a shop in town. He said no problem, and I was to return two days later for first fitting. When I got back, he seemed a little anxious, and asked me to come back in an hour. Back again he had company from two locals, that took command. Suddenly the negotiated price had risen to ordinary shop prices. I believe he was denied dealing directly with farang tourists, by the to tough guys in command. I think I will visit BB's tailor next time.

I had my fitting and a few adjustments were required. I returned the following day and the suit was finished. Tried it on and it was a perfect fit.

Workmanship and finish were really good and I am happy with the result.

Thanks BB for the recommendation.

They do all the work for local Thai dignitaries. I'd guess 99% of their work is for Thais. My son uses them very regularly, mainly for embroidery, but has had all sorts manufactured by them. They've always come up with the goods.
