Refrigeration Repair Man

Post by Big Boy »

I've walked into the kitchen this morning and found myself paddling. My non-technical assessment is the fridge-freezer has gone tits up.

Salvaged what we could into our smaller unit. My next stop will be Samsung to see if they can get somebody to repair it. We used them before, and while they did a great job. it took them weeks to come out. We can't really wait that long this time.

I'm asking in advance for a decent repair man, in the event Samsung says it will be weeks again.

So any recommendations please?

^^Hey don't knock it. Nereus comes from a time when you could fix your car with a bit of chewing gum and a pair of tights, Britain had a manufacturing base, the UK was trying to get into the EU, and dinosaurs roamed the Earth...
This is the way

Excuse me, but Nereus comes from the time you could fix your car with a pair of stockings - tights hadn’t been invented yet :duck:

Sorry Big Boy, I don't know anybody. I have texted the woman that rents my house as she knows a good one, but she has not replied.

Guys, Nereus may come from a time long ago, but I often find his advice invaluable to a technical ignoramus. I know some of you sometimes disagree with him, but I find his knowledge a lot better than mine - he's helped me directly and indirectly several times over the years.

The good news is Samsung will be a lot faster this time - so thanks for your help Michaelaway and Nereus. It seems I jumped the gun this time expecting Samsung to take weeks. I'm not complaining, but this is the first time I can remember being charged a call out fee - 482฿.

:D

Was just a bit of banter as he discusses these electrical/technical threads with such passion. Obviously a very intelligent man when it comes to these topics.

No offence intended, Nereus.

No offence taken! Not sure it is passion though. Just years of study and being called upon to fix Buddha only knows what under pressure!

Before I call someone out and start forking out.

Anyone know what a beeping door alarm when the doors are closed could mean? Fridge is an LG.

Google returns the usual list of spammy websites and links though it is leaning towards an electrical circuit issue which is hardly surprising.

It may be the little elf inside that switches off the light. He probably needs some more Guinness. :rasta:

Could be a multitude of small things, from a faulty sensor, overfull cabinet restricting the airflow, damaged leaking door seal, etc. The alarm can be turned off if it is annoying you.

My fridge had a hole in the seal that you could put your hand through, albeit incredulously you couldn't see it without running your fingers around it. Could it be a broken seal?

I thought I killed that elf years ago. Door switches and light operates as usual. Its definitely not over full - two teenage kids see to that!

There appears to be a cooling issue too, the seal vacuums are not as tight as they were.

The door rubber seal has a magnetic strip inside it to hold the door closed, not a vacuum. Try cleaning and then inspect the door seal. Not sure, but if a cooling problem it should show up on the control panel display.
