Ken Thomson - Ex Crawfords Bar RIP

Post by Big Boy »

A very good friend has passed today.

I first met Ken when holidaying in Thailand many years ago. He was the brains behind Crawfords Irish Bar. A little air conditioned oasis amongst Hua Hin's shabby bars. It was clean, food was good and top beer. Many bars have since strived to achieve Ken's high standards.

Ken was very well known and respected in Hua Hin. I'm sure many old timers will have very fond memories of Ken, and his warped sense of humour.

Over the years our families met up many times in both Thailand and the UK. We even had a couple of holidays together.

Ken has been fighting cancer for over a year now, and he is now at peace. He will be missed.

RIP good friend. Our thoughts are with Tan, Aoom and Am who are left behind.

I never knew him that well but I do remember him, particularly from the times, he was building Crawfords. R.I.P.

Sorry to hear this news BB. I never knew him at all, or his bar, but over the years he was a name that kept cropping up as well as reference to his bar, and if I recall correctly, a later one elsewhere?

RIP and condolences to all friends and family.

Always enjoyed his posts, and he always seemed happy. That in itself is a monumental life achievement. RIP Ken, you'll be missed.

Thats sad, Ken was one of the first to open a proper pub alog with Eddy. Great character, funny man and ran a great pub, it was the place we mostly went to after work.
Condolences to his family.

Ken was always cheerful and ready to furnish you with another funny tale, we had some good times back in the day. RIP mate.

Quite an obituary. They also had a minutes silence at the McKenzie Cup Final yesterday.

Sad news indeed, I knew ken quite well from the Crawfords days. Last time I saw him was at the funeral of a mutual friend in Falkirk about 5 years ago. A true gent has exited the planet. R I.P. Ken

A very nice man and in my rare visits to the bar area: it was to Crawfords. So many good memories watching live sports there. The only well run bar IMO those years ago, with good food and beer RIP Ken

Crawfords was an oasis of dignified calm set against the scruffy low rent sleaze that is the Bintabaht area.

Sitting on Crawfords small terrace, enjoying a drink, a plate of ham egg and chips, followed by a coffee and a cigarette whilst watching the world pass by was one of the joys of a visit to the town centre.

The place was well run and the staff well trained and Ken as the owner was a friendly host.

This was terrible news, I remember sitting in london bar opposite what was going to be crawfords with ken watching the place take shape.
As others have said he set the standard for others to follow.
