Train Line Demolitions in Hua Hin
Train Line Demolitions in Hua Hin
Does anybody know what happens to the folks who live next to the train line, who are having their properties knocked down?
Do they get compensation?
How much notice do the get?

Re: Train Line Demolitions
There is an Expropriation Act that allows 'compulsory purchase' and covers the question of compensation. I would imagine it's similar to other countries where the purchase reflects market price.
Re: Train Line Demolitions
I know that public meetings took place in the various 'villages' along the line with officials, where the locals were informed about what was going to happen and who would be compensated. Of course, it also means those whose properties remain, will be nearer the line, but I don't think that counts for anything.

Re: Train Line Demolitions
They are probably "squatting" on railway land anyway as it extends some distance either side of the existing tracks - you can still see the original boundary markers in quite a few places - like an old blue enameled sign.
Re: Train Line Demolitions
I think that is the case as you don't see many decent houses in those areas, they're basically shantytown type places. I imagine that they were paying some kind of rent as backhanders to stay there but it wouldn't be official.

Re: Train Line Demolitions
I would imagine there are numerous properties (commercial and residential) that have been erected illegally and assume therefore, that they won’t receive any compensation?
Re: Train Line Demolitions
Squatters of course will just be kicked off. The SRT own 40,000 rai of land, most of which is rented out for an income of 3 billion baht. Rents are expected to double in 5 years and triple in 10. All the current rail projects have a figure for expropriation of land where required. Some land has long fixed term leases with commercial companies which they say is a problem. I doubt whether that effects the rail project through Hua Hin and as has been said above, my guess is that most, if not all the land required is already owned by the SRT.
Re: Train Line Demolitions
I read somewhere yesterday that over 500 homes with over 700 dwellers were affected in Hua Hin. To me, the number of homes seems excessive, and the number of dwellers too small.
Sorry guys, I can't remember where I read it, so if anybody can confirm the numbers, or say they are rubbish, thank you.

I couldn't find anything either, BB. I did find an article that said expropriation will be paid out at between 300 - 800 baht per sq mtr.

Government officials and representatives from the State Railway of Thailand met with members of the local community affected the new dual track railway that is currently being constructed in Hua Hin. The public forum, which was presided over by Mr. Phirom Nitaya, Deputy Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, heard from those who face being evicted from their homes due to the construction of the new train line. Re: Public transport from Hua Hin to Ranong?
New railway route anybody have any idea how the flyover at soi112 will be effected , if you drive under the flyover it looks as ìf the flyover has to be demolished.

Re: Train Line Demolitions
Are the new train lines for the high speed rail that has been canceled?
Re: Public transport from Hua Hin to Ranong?
I think it will go through or near to the gap at almost ground level that the current line goes through. If you look south from 102, you can see the supports gradually get lower after they cross 102. But I am sure there will be disruption during construction to the U turn after the flyover crosses the line, if heading south, judging by the sandy support road they are building. But there is also plenty of space to shorten the u turn to accommodate the new line.
