Charity

Post by Thaiclan »

I read in Hua Hin Today last month about an orphange locally that was looking for aid/volunteers. The article mentioned that the kids ate only 2 meals per day as there wasn't enough for 3 meals. I called the number at the bottom of the article but go no where with the Thai language. Does anybody know where this orphanage is or where any of the others are so that I can get involved?

I don't believe it. There is plenty of food here.
any money you give will be taken by some hi-so or monk. Sorry but seen all the time in thailand.

Its a shame your cyncism gets in the way of you acknowledging and helping those in real need - especially here in Thailand. There are plenty of ways to get involved in REAL causes. Of course there will always be scams, and con men (including some monks), but you do not have to look too hard in this country to find people who could really use a little help from the likes of yourself and others. Its not always money too, your time, effort and knowledge is just as valuable.
I haven't found out yet about the orphange my first post referred too, but I can tell you first hand about orphanges where food is scarce, and where the children make a collective effort to raise money via collecting rubbish or drying coconut husks.

Good post Thaiclan, it's great to see someone with a good heart.
If you find out about the orphanage please let me know.
I'm coming to HH for Xmas, and would love to do something to help the kids.
Do you know the name or area of the orphanage?, at the very least it would be worth a 'google'

If you avoid giving money, you won't have to worry that your gift ends up in the wrong pockets. These institutions lack resources of many kinds and it is quite easy to help.

I recently celebrated my birthday (which I didn't care about anyway) in a way that my thai wife suggested, and we had great fun. We went, together with a bunch of my wife's friends, to a school on the leftside of the bypass road if you're heading towards Cha-Am. (We made appointments first, of course.) I don't think this is an orphanage but it is some kind of boarding school and most kids seem to be disadvantaged or less gifted (sorry, I don't know the proper terms in English).

We cooked and served lunch, including Coke and lots of ice cream to make it special, and we gave each kid a few pens, crayons and a sketch-block. They were about 200 kids that day. We had expected up to 300, but quite a few had not returned from a long weekend.

All the kids seemed to really enjoy the whole thing and teachers and school officials were happy too. The kids would have had lunch that day without our initiative, I'm sure, but for them it was something extra. And perhaps the school could use the money they saved for books or something instead. I believe this institution is financed by the government but that doesn't mean it has all the resources it would need.

The whole thing cost me probably the same money as if I had thrown a better party at home, but this saved me the hangover. I can recommend it! :D

Last time we had postings about charity we gave all the money to HHDRC.
Now Thaiclan is writing about another good project.
If we can find out where this school is, them I'm with you all the way!!!

Yes, Thailand has got plenty of food.
But you have to pay for it.
Maybe a little money for a farang, but very much money for people who have nothing!!!!

Let's try do do something for our local community.
We are the rich guests in this country and we like to tell everybody that it's soooo cheap to live here.
And that's right. As long as you're a farang with monthly income from Europe or the USA.

Lev; I think it's time for a new party.
I intend to live forever - so far so good.

Good post Norseman.
We will be out there in around eight weeks, if you manage to get anything off the ground, please let me know and we will help you all we can, contributing money or donating food and water, or some spare time to assist you, anything we can do would be a pleasure.

Again a good posting.
