I think this is the 3rd petition lodged by this group (ICBP) and the last two were blown away. Although this one has a lot more signatures, I doubt the response will be any different.

Personally, I'd love it to succeed as my pension has been frozen for years!

Yes and a few hundred thousand more across the globe!! What gets me is the fact that living in some countries qualify to get the increase while others don’t - I could understand if they applied the “no increase” rule to all expats, but making it country specific is nothing other than pure discrimination.

It's about reciprocal agreements between the UK and the country where you have retired. There is no such agreement between Thailand and the UK.

I’m fully aware of the reason the Government give, but it doesn’t wash with me.

It is interesting to watch videos on U tube from UK retirees in Europe. They are distraught that they may not, probably will not have access to almost free Health Care in the countries in which they are retired after Brexit and any say that this in addition to pension freezing will drive them to return to the UK.

The UK is seeking to agree a reciprical health treatment agreement in the event of a no deal. I doubt any of the Countries where expats live will object. If they return home, many such local economies will collapse.

Before deciding about retiring please be aware of the 'Frozen Pensions' issue....

This policy has remained unchanged for many many years. I'm sure most people are aware of it. It's been raised in parliament several times. Part of Corbyn's manifesto is to 'unfreeze' these pensions.

I read an article that said it would cost an extra 600 million per year if pension increases were introduced for expats. That's less than what we currently pay to the EU every 2 weeks.

600 million - a whole 0.6% of this year's pension budget. https://obr.uk/forecasts-in-depth/tax-b ... e-pension/

nowadays there are so many things that you have to declare to various institutes
Such as?

It's hard to identify occasions when you would need to physically present yourself, aside from jury service - but even then they will cancel a jury summons now for the slightest reason - the court service doesn't want reluctant jurors!

If you Google the question, it's actually quite hard to find what degree of absence legally constitutes emigration, if the person concerned doesn't actually acknowledge the fact. It's almost as though you remain UK resident for as long as you style yourself as such, even if it's in spirit only!
I recently had a case of a UK pensioner who had been travelling to and from Thailand for 'medical treatment.' (Inverted commas because I have no evidence of that) Over a year there had been 3 trips, each of over a month, which added up to him having spent over 50% of the year in Thailand. In addition he had been moving house in the UK - staying with family for a while and generally not easy to track.
It wasn't long before he was hit with an overpayment of state pension and other benefits totalling around £14 K. Evidence used against him included passport (well well) and info from the Thai entry cards, and an e mail sent from Thailand to the UK, :tsk:
A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.
