Uploading photo here?
Hi, I wanted to show a photo I took in HH town centre today but I can't work out how to upload it. Could someone give me step by step instructions? Earlier threads explaining how to, via Options, don't seem to be relevant to the screen I'm looking at (but that's probably just me, as sadly I'm still at the Fisher Price level of computer competence). Thank you!
Re: Uploading photo here?
Her's a guide of how to do it:

Im sure this has already been asked but if you upload photos to PI via Flickr, do you have to leave the photos in Flickr afterwards?

I've no idea what Pl is, but I've never been able to make Flickr work on the forum.

Re: Uploading photo here?
The problem with this guide is that I don't know of any online program that lets you choose both pixel count and size in kb, but the guide says pics must be 'under 200kb in file size and 800 pixels wide else they will not upload'. I think it's hard to make an 'idiot proof' guide.Norseman wrote: ↑Wed Jul 26, 2017 11:14 pm Her's a guide of how to do it:

Which is why I upload to Imgur and then post the link instead. I know that if Imgur went west then the pics would probably not appear from then on, but hey.
Re: Uploading photo here?
I always use Faststone Photo Re-sizer, which can be downloaded free of charge. Very easy to use, but not an online program.

The following lets you choose what size you want, and does not alter the original. I had a problem with this for a few months but it works now and has done so recently. The problem with this guide is that I don't know of any online program that lets you choose both pixel count and size in kb,

As I mentioned, this online service (which the guide recommends) allows you to choose the size in pixels but leaves you guessing as to the size in kb of the altered image. A very detailed 5 MB pic reduced to 800 pixels by this program comes out as an 75kb -100 kb image, depending on the image quality you select in the program. Either way, the resolution is very poor and the picture quality is disappointing, with very low detail.Nereus wrote: ↑Sat Jun 16, 2018 9:23 amThe following lets you choose what size you want, and does not alter the original. I wrote the guide trying to be helpful. You are very welcome to devise your own solution.
I never use the online service - I found something much better, which I have advised, several times on this forum.

And your point is what? You posted that no online service shows different size options, which Shrink Pictures does!404cameljockey wrote: ↑Sat Jun 16, 2018 11:31 amAs I mentioned, this online service (which the guide recommends) allows you to choose the size in pixels but leaves you guessing as to the size in kb of the altered image. Are you trying to sell pictures to National Geographic, or just post them on here? It is very simple. If the reduced size is still too big to post simply do it again with a smaller option! And I believe that the maximium size allowed on here is now 1,000 x 1,000, but the software will simply block it if too big.

As I've mentioned many times, on Shrink Pictures the largest you can post is by ticking CUSTOM and putting in a size of 999, and tick BEST at the bottom. You get a very good picture of good size every time. If you want something smaller just tick 50% and BEST. All the Superbru charts I post are at this 50% size. Pete

No need to be snotty with your questions and exclamation marks. I'm fed up with being involved in snarky threads because people start in and I respond.
My point was clear: I don't know of any online program that lets you choose both pixel count and size in kb. That's pure fact. Shrinkpictures.com just suggest three vague quality settings, none of which produce an image worth looking at. I explained that clearly also.
If people want to post a nice pic of a place they recommend to visit, or an insect or something they would like identified. then a good quality picture is wanted, with reasonable detail, not some slightly blurry looking snap. The website you're championing I think is poor for the purpose. Why should posters anyway have to try several times just to get a decent quality picture to post (which shrinkpictures.com doesn't produce anyway, it doesn't return an image anything near 1000 kb)?
Poor quality pictures reduce the quality and effectiveness of the forums.

Thanks, Pete. I think the website is great for charts, etc. But some people post photos of attractive flowers, scenery, etc. and it doesn't really work for that. In my opinion.PeteC wrote: ↑Sat Jun 16, 2018 12:13 pm As I've mentioned many times, on Shrink Pictures the largest you can post is by ticking CUSTOM and putting in a size of 999, and tick BEST at the bottom. And there are many others apart from me that are "fed up" with your ramblings. Your need to read your own post where you posted:No need to be snotty with your questions and exclamation marks. I'm fed up with being involved in snarky threads because people start in and I respond.
I bothered to answer you and STILL you dispute it!The problem with this guide is that I don't know of any online program that lets you choose both pixel count and size in kb
