Man Named "Carl"

Post by matthew80 »

Hello everyone!

When I was in Hua hin last year, I met a young Hawiian ex-marine named "Carl" who turned out to be quite an interesting and colourful individual. His antics around town were legendary, especially amongst the bar owners. I think if any of you expats have been around Hua Hin for a while, your paths must have undoubtedly crossed. Anyway, a few weeks after I left, I learned that he had gotten into some more sticky situations (the substance of - I know not) and has subsequently dropped off the face of the earth. Does anyone have knowledge of this guy, and what became of him, or what he is up to? Would be interested to know how he's getting along. Cheers and thanks! matthew

Matthew,

You will have to be a bit more precise about the time when you last saw him.

I know him very well and so does a friend of mine who is due here shortly.

I have been a bit concerend about him also. He lost the plot one night about six to nine months ago and ended uo in the monkey house. It was noit anything very serious but it cost him money and a few calls to the right people to have him freed. The plan (or his girlfriend's at least) was to take him up to Isan for a bit of R & R. He has done this before.

He left Hua Hin with all problems solved as far as I was aware but I have heard nothing from him since.

I will make a few enquiries in the mean time. Unfortunately I have no contact details for him in the States. The friend of mine in the UK will probably know more.

Thanks Guess! I was there when he ended up in the slammer. I actually babysat him in the station while he was "coming down" from whatever high he was on. The police were very tolerant of me because "Miss Canada" had just won the Miss Universe title and her pic was splashed across the newspapers they were reading. Being from Canada, I told the police that she was my sister! (I don't really think they believed me). Said goodbye to Carl and is girlfriend after he got out and he'd made hasty plans to vacate Hua Hin. i saw him briefly later on, when he suddenly re-appeared "clean and sober" A week or two later, and he was back to his outragious self. I left soon after and have not heard a word from him, and his email has never worked. I just hope he was able to make a clean slate of it and start out fresh. If you learn of anything, I would be appreciative if you passed the info along. Cheers! Matt
