What on earth?

This little cocoon thing is stuck to the wall in my garage - it's about 5-6 cms long (couple of inches).

I've never seen one quite as weird looking as this - does anyone know what's inside (or what will come out)?

I just showed it to my Thai partner and she said she thinks it's some kind of ghost!

This is a pupa of the Common Rose (Pachliopta aristolochiae), a butterfly of the Swallowtail family.
