You're not kidding, that particular flight has jumped 65% in price in less than a week. :guns:

Now costs the same to go direct so that's what we've booked.

I've also noticed pretty much every one of the budget carriers (and some of the regular airlines) now charge extra for check-in baggage, a meal, and seat selection.

Yes, my son has just travelled with Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines, who I would class as regular. To have more than carry-on baggage it cost an arm and a leg. If you're travelling half way around the world for a couple of weeks, it is very likely you are going to need more than 7Kg luggage,

KLM have been charging for luggage for over a year now. I booked with them in March 2022 and they were charging £90 each way for a 23kg suitcase so £180 for a return trip from the UK. We had 4 passengers so the cost was extortionate. At that time Emirates were still more expensive.

My last flight and next flight are with Thai and they include 30kg in the ticket price. They may not be the cheapest but last time I checked, very little difference between them and the main Middle East airlines, with the bonus of no stopover in Dubai/Abu Dhabi/Qatar.

Thai was more than double the price for where we're going, they're back to their old tricks again it seems.

I guess all the airlines are scrambling to claw back three years of lockdown losses and pay their debts, it has very little to do with the price of the fuel.

My flights are to the UK and all the airlines seem keen to continue milking passengers as much as they can. For reasons I don’t understand, BA are still not flying the LHR-BKK route and judging by the Thai Airways plane being full to overflowing when I flew in Feb/Mar, I can't see it being down to lack of demand?

On the contrary. There are two main problems:

1. Lack of airworthy aircraft and associated spare parts supply to make them airworthy.

2. A world wide shortage of both qualified and current pilots.

Net result being: fewer routes + more people wanting to travel + inflation = expensive flights (even when booking 6 months ahead).

I came in about three weeks ago and it was very quick, almost no queuing at all.

Flight prices seem to be dropping at last, I've just bought a flight from Luxembourg for September/October for 560GBP which is the best deal I've had for some years.

I think you got lucky, I look quite regularly and they are still in 'insane' category. I flew LHR-BKK ONE WAY business class £1900 three weeks ago - which was about £500 cheaper than everyone else - even economy was pushing a grand!

Single tickets are often almost the same as a return ticket, but having said that, last time I looked at a BC return ticket BKK-LHR, it was nigh on £4,000

I've just had a quick look and you can get an economy return from Heathrow for mid-September starting from 604gbp with Gulf Air and direct with Thai for about 800.
