Experiences of living in Bangkok
Hi
Im looking at moving to Bangkok and i wondered of peoples experiences. The only place iv stayed at is Siriraj, which i loved, a genuine Thai area but only 10minutes taxi from Ko-san road.
One of the attractions for me is being more anonymous, not to mention more things to see & do.
Is it really that more expensive then Hua-Hin?

When nosy expats ask how can i live here without working, i reply, 'well, while you worked hard for 50 years, i worked smart for 5 years'
Re: Experiences of living in Bangkok
its cheaper than hua hin, if your after a basic apartment or condo,
if you want a townhouse then Hua Hin is cheaper
obviously different areas will have different prices in BKK.
It all depends on if you need to be right next door to the BTS

Bkk is a great place to live, the city is full of life, events concerts etc. The city is full of young working people who like to go out at night, unlike hh. Like HH you can live cheaply, eat in Thai shop house restaurants or expensively in classy restaurants, even the English type pubs are 50% more expensive for food and 20% more for drinks. Few of my expat friends owned cars, just not practicle, BTS, MRT and taxis are easier.

Re: Experiences of living in Bangkok
I have been in Thailand more than two years. I planned to come here with the idea of living in Bangkok but that just never happened.
I've moved around everywhere and BKK is just not for me. Why? I can't keep myself from going out.
Maybe that's an issue of personal will-power but there really is just so much going on. Being a young guy with a lot of free time leaves me with a pretty unhealthy lifestyle. As someone who loves driving, the traffic makes life pretty miserable.
Of course, you're probably nothing like me, but I just wanted to share my experience.

lol .
i see the craiglist house-sharers is very active...but im not sure if i'll feel more safe or more in danger lol. ...it would be my first time living with others and not being the landlord/owner.
BMWHH - i know what you mean about the traffic. will-power to do with going out is another thing i'll try to be strict on

Hello, I have never been to Thailand, Iam planning to visit Thailand next summer (July 2016), can anyone suggest places to visit, places for eating or shopping, and the price?

I have friends who work in Bangkok and yet every Friday evening they drive down to Hua Hin for the weekend, as much as they enjoy going out they say Bangkok will drive you insane.

Re: Experiences of living in Bangkok
I've been doing it for the last 6 years and wouldn't really recommend it because as you say the drive is too long and Friday's/Sunday's are the worst driving days on this route.oakdale160 wrote:I did that for some years, If HH was only hal from BKK as it isf as far, many many more would do that,
However Bangkok remains special as everything is available, almost 24/7. The choices of everything except sand and sea are better but you pay the price in traffic and polution. Because of competition I find prices for most things cheaper in BKK but I love my home in HH so the weekly migration will need to continue for a little while longer.
It's actually nice to experience both BKK and HH but as oakdale says it would be great if they were closer but then again maybe not as there would be even more migrating during weekends and public holidays! You can't win!

Re: Experiences of living in Bangkok
I live in Palamsong when in Thailand and find the area catering to all I would want, including fitness centre nearby and a guitar store just accross the main road when coming out from our Soi.
The distance and time to HH depends on where in BKK you reside, being in the South West part we flow easily along the High way towards Samut Songkran and then onto the highway towards Hua Hin.
I have done HH trip return in the same day a couple of times, its OK, especially if you share driving, but not regularly.
One scenario my wife and I contemplate is living in Hua Hin but keep the town house in Palamsong and comute there for the weekend when we feel like it, to be with family.
I think it is probable that wifey's family also will visit us from time to time, we have gone to HH a lot together with them in the past as they enjoy HH as much as we do.
