Re: Dried Peas
The tinned mushies can be a reasonable alternative - if a scary colour! But if you decide to try the tinned marrowfats BB avoid the Thai brand ones - like flippin bullets.
As an alternative to parsnips have a trial run with mooli (chinese radish.) Raw it is just like regular radish. Cooked - steamed that is - it is a bit like turnip and good in stews. I've never roasted them like parsnips but it could be worth a try.

A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.

If they tax your peas, please put it in the Customs Duty thread. Pete

Re: Dried Peas
They actually arrived in record time. I had my doubts that they would get through the system at all, as they are technically seeds and they rattle a lot. My brother sent them normal post last Monday from Southampton, and they arrived in our letter box on Thursday (according to my son). Definitely no duty charged.

Re: Dried Peas
They're in Villa today if you can cope with a dried split green pea out of the good ol' USA (46 baht a 500 gm packet). Last ailse on left one intersection away from butchery, opposite cold cuts etc.Big Boy wrote:Hmmmm...... I've looked (walked up and down each aisle at least twice) in Tesco, Makro, G and Villa Market. I can't see them. Maybe I'm looking for some traditional UK type packaging. Whatever, I can't find them. I haven't looked in the Shopping Mall yet.
Villa also today had fresh Brussels Sprouts (520 baht a kilo). I didn't specifically check out frozen for you, but probably yes - there's lots of frozen Birds Eye products in stock. Failing which the Hua Hin Bakery just off Chomsin Road usually has them. Personally I don't like them when they've been frozen.

Re: Dried Peas
I use Chinese Radish. Just as good if not better. Like em stir fried, boiled, in stews and nice roasted too. Dirt cheap and in TescosDannie Boy wrote:So where can we get the parsnips BB - Villa Market?pharvey wrote:Definitely a veg I miss - where can you get them BB?Big Boy wrote: We've also identified where we can get our parsnips.

Talking of parsnips and root veggies, there seems to be a lot of 'rooting' for HH&B but I guess he is a sponsor and a mod

Re: Dried Peas
richard, sponsorship had nothing to do with it - I actually avoided the question for half a day on the forum (responded initially by PM), but when a second person asked I thought that I'd better reply.
The fact is, when I asked the question, nobody knew, so I guess that I have provided a legitimate public service

Very much so, I enjoy roast parsnips as much as roast potatoes, so will be going to HH H&B in about 10 days timeBig Boy wrote:richard, sponsorship had nothing to do with it - I actually avoided the question for half a day on the forum (responded initially by PM), but when a second person asked I thought that I'd better reply.

Re: Dried Peas
NB: I don't know if it is necessary, but the web link does say order now for Christmas. It could be worth checking to avoid disappointment.

In defence...I suggested the Ham & Bacon Just for the mushy peas.richard wrote:Talking of parsnips and root veggies, there seems to be a lot of 'rooting' for HH&B but I guess he is a sponsor and a mod
Anyway...back to sprouts..not frozen, buy them small as possible, keep as cool as you can when storing.
Parsnips...my favourite Really love them...you can mash them also with carrot yum! I like roasted too with pototoes.
