Re: Thailand's high-speed train project underway
At the moment the rail service is hopelessly outdated so no surprise that it's not the transport of choice for most people. However, if there was a fast service from HH to BKK at a competitive price, then I'd be more than happy to use it, but I'm an infrequent traveller, normally not more than twice a year, so they wouldn't survive on my custom.

Well, if CP and ThaiBev are showing an interest, then I'm inclined to think that there must be a lot of potential profit to be made.
Will there be enough passengers? Of course there will be; CP will only have to strike a deal to have an on board 7/11 on the trains, and then every seat is likely to be booked weeks in advance.

TCC Group shows interest in high-speed train project
TCC Group, owned by billionaire Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi, has confirmed it is looking at joining the country's first high-speed train project.
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha had previously said several private companies might team up with big companies such as Charoen Pokphand Group, TCC or BTS Group Holdings to invest in two high-speed train routes - Bangkok-Hua Hin and Bangkok-Pattaya.
Thapana Sirivadhanabhakdi, chief executive of Thai Beverage Plc, a unit of TCC, said the company would conduct a feasibility study on the joint development of the high-speed train project.
"TCC is always open to new business opportunities. We expect to finalise the decision next month," he said.
Group businesses range from beverages and hotels to property and retail. It reportedly owns 10,000 rai of land in Phetchaburi province, drawing high speculation it will opt for the Bangkok-Hua Hin route.

High-speed Hua Hin line design finalised
Design work on a proposed high-speed rail route from Bangkok to Hua Hin is now complete.
Transport authorities are now drafting the terms of reference (ToR) and will call for bids among prospective investors, Transport Minister Prajin Juntong said yesterday.
The bidding is expected to be held in early August this year, following preparation of the ToR.
Then, the private company which is awarded the project can start building the route with the work likely to take two-and-a-half to three years, ACM Prajin said.

Re: Thailand's high-speed train project underway
i rode the "express" train #40 from HH to BKK. 420 baht second class with air con. Four hours flat to get there. half hour later I was in Soi cowboy, the number one destination in SEA.
i wonder how much faster this will be? are we talking about all new tracks the whole way exclusively for this train? what companies in Thailand know anything about building modern trains? Same same as BKK Skytrain construction company? lets hope a EU company with real engineers are awarded this project. Sad the USA is so far out of the loop.

yeah.... right.JamesWest wrote:........... Soi cowboy, the number one destination in SEA.
Not a chance.... Chinese "investment" will secure the project. Ultimately they want the link to Malaysia and Singapore.JamesWest wrote:lets hope a EU company with real engineers are awarded this project.

So far, three Thai firms have expressed interest in investing in the project. They are Bangkok skytrain operator BTS Group Holdings, agro-industrial conglomerate Charoen Pokphand (CP) and TTC Group, the parent company of Thai Beverage Plc.
Companies from Germany, China, Japan and Hong Kong are also eyeing the project, but the government will give priority to domestic firms, ACM Prajin said.
"Thai companies can join hands with whoever, but we want to see Thais lead the project," he said, adding that he does not want to see Thais serving as nominees for foreign investors.
The cost of the 206km Bangkok-Hua Hin route is initially estimated at 90 billion baht.

OMG if the French get involved it will never be finished. 30 hour work week, 1 hour breaks and 2 hour lunches plus going on strike once a month.

Whoever is the engineering company the labor will be Thai. Chinese or Japanese middle management would be better at supervising them than Europeans.
