^ I've seen them highlighted before in some articles. They seem to be the most prevalent raptor here, regardless of its small size.

I've seen some over my area and they panic the local pigeons when they come into view.

Strangely, that's the first, actually saw 2, since I've been paying attention while in TH.

Seen these, some more than a few times, especially the Buzzard, Kites & Sea Eagle:
Besra
Black Baza
Black Kite
Black Winged Kite
Brahminy Kite

Crested Serpent-Eagle
Gray-headed Fish-Eagle
Oriental Honey-buzzard
Shikra
White-bellied Sea-Eagle

Had a pair of these in our yard over the past week or so, its a Common Hoopoe.

Those aggressive Mynah birds have been trying to chase them off so something may have to be done about that!

Although I have occasionally had an “odd” number of these visit me, it’s nearly always in pairs - presumably “husband and wife”?

Whereas we only get singletons. Probably lost.

These two are always in a pair ... but the Mynahs are in a gang intent on separating them.

I have a pair that visit regularly. I've never taken notice of the weeks they're around. Probably equates to a season. I often wonder if it's the same pair year on year. They're usually in a pair but after a while only a single one comes to feed. Usually, egg(s) have been laid and the male does the foraging and feeds the female.

Fascinating birds. We've been getting them regularly for years now. I tend to put the Hoopoe call loud on speakers. Watching them trying to figure out where the call is coming from. Aren't I horrible!! Doesn't send them packing though. Once they've flown into a tree and had a look around, they're back aerating my lawn with their long beaks.

I had my slightly better camera with me today as I walked the lake, and was quite pleased to be able to snap this little guy.

Birds of Thailand

Post by Dannie Boy »

Anybody know what this bird is - I don’t recall seeing them before but we now have 4 of them building two nests close to each other, which is leading to a disagreement between the first two that started building their nest about 4 days ago and the new pair that began yesterday or the day before!! Size wise I’d say they are similar to a house sparrow or slightly bigger.
