How to embed YouTube video clips into posts
Re: How to embed YouTube video clips into posts
The youtube.be indicates that the source of the URL was a short URL. There are other "feature=" tags that indicate other sources among other things. This so that YouTube and contributors can tell how viewers got there.

You may want to send your suggestions to the people that write the software: http://www.phpbb.com
They may include it in a future update.

I think it's the customer's job to deal with the vendor.
It irks me to see poorly written software that expects the user to do things that the code should take care of automatically.
I'll leave it for now.

Re: How to embed YouTube video clips into posts
I did a little more research on this. It turns out that YouTube embed functionality is not part of a standard phpBB installation. It has to be added by the installer or an administrator with a BBcode tag. There are many BBcode tags for YouTube out there. Unfortunately, whoever did this installation chose one of the least flexible YouTube tags available. It doesn't handle short URls, it doesn't handle https and it doesn't handle URL arguments beyond the YouTube video ID.
Here's one that claims to handle both long and short URls and also states:
This is also supposed to work for videos from sites other than YouTube such as Vimeo and DailyMotion.
No way for me to test this as I don't run a phpBB forum.
I'll leave it up to the admin to decide whether or not they want to make things easier for us users.

https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/bbcode/video/URLs do not need to be cleaned from the garbage arguments as our [video] will work it out.

Never mind....
Re: How to embed YouTube video clips into posts
Ok, I am never successful at doing this. Here's an example:
I'm looking at a youtube video I want to embed so I copy the URL
Doesn't work so I remove the https:// as suggested
Still doesn't work.

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Re: How to embed YouTube video clips into posts
Don't remove the entire https, but just the "s" making it http. Should work then. Pete
