Thai Banking Fees

Post by Lung Per »

My Thai Bank (Bangkok Bank) charges me a fee of 200 THB for receiving ThaiBaht that I have transfered electronically from my bank in Scandinavia. I have already paid a fee to my homeland bank for it to carry out the transaction. The transfer is in ThaiBaht, not in farang currency. The transaction would be the same if I personally enter the Thai bank and make a deposit in THB in my account, yet the bank does not take a fee to receive my cash. Why this difference. Because I am farang? Are the banks allowed to do this under Thai law? Is there a Thai Banking law at all? To me this seems like steeling my money.

If it makes you feel any better, everybody has to pay it:

International Fund Transfers

1. Into Thailand

0.25% Thai Baht amount
200 Baht (minimum fee)
500 Baht (maximum fee)

Thanks for your responses. They are of no consolation. The fact that the Thai Banks also steel from other farangs does not make their actions legitimate.

If anyone can come up with an answer to one or all of the above, I would appreciate it.
