A fair few years ago (and a few times since) had a dish in Turkey - we were well away from the big towns etc. so have never been able to get the recipe or much close to it. What it was was a spicy Eggplant (Aubergine) mix, roasted with a mix of spices - served cold as a dip with hot flat bread (or similar) absolutely wonderful! :thumb: I'm still searching, so any ideas.....!!

During one of my "searches", I recently found a recipe which to be honest is nothing like the above, BUT sounds great and with the addition of some fresh or powdered chilli etc.....

[EDIT] Obviously needs a little work around in Thailand (Greek Yogurt, Lemons etc), but surely can be done.

Turkish Baba Ghanoush is available in several recipes on the internet. It's a Mediterranean dish and you'll find several different ethnic versions of Baba Ghanoush.

Thanks - yes, I've seen many, it's just not the same that I had. Perhaps I just had a local "derivative"... Nothing I've seen on the Internet or tried has really come close.

You need the belly dancers to go with it to make it authentic.

Try Moutabal, its uses Tahini also so that gives it a slightly different flavour.

Mutabal is a Middle Eastern eggplant dip with a nice smoky flavor. While sometimes confused with baba ganoush, it has its own unique flavor and can be served with fresh pita bread as an appetizer or on a mezze platter for a tasty feast!

Having had a quick look at the recipie, still lacking the spice (though easy to add). Will have a try though - cheers! :thumb:

All of this talk about Indian Restaurants made me feel hungry, so I decided to knock up my standard “Madras type” curry, with pilau rice and Makro bought Naan.

Well instead of starting a new thread, I'm going to post this here - after all, it's only really those interested in cooking that would really know of him.

Sad news, but not unexpected as he had been ill with and having treatment for cancer over the past 2-3 years. "The Hairy Bikers" have done some good stuff over the years IMHO - I've been enjoying the odd show in their latest series on BBC iPlayer "The Hairy Bikers Go Local". RIP

I've enjoyed him and the show over the years. It's on the BBC food channel here on TRUE, depending upon what package you have. RIP

Never watched him, I'll search out some shows.

I’ve been a great admirer of these two for many years and as Pete mentioned, it comes as little surprise as he came out with the news of his cancer almost 2 years ago. I saw Dave Myers a few months ago in one of his first shows since trying to get back on the road - although he only looked”half the man” he used to, I was hoping he had a lot longer time in this world than has transpired. His “other half” Si King, will be absolutely lost without him - not sure whether we’ll see him in any other cooking programme? RIP Dave Myers

Yeah, I think you were watching the "latest" (last :( ), whereas the show I mentioned was the previous one....

What I loved about "Going Local" was the fact that they visited top class restaurants (well Chefs) around the UK, found alternative local suppliers and put their own twist on things - absolutely cracking!! :thumb:

And on that note... Wagyu Katsu Sandwich with Kokkaido Milk Bread DAMN!!

That one you'll find here (along with a "Flapjack Manchester Tart" :D : -
