Issan is pronouned Sak/Suk Wow and Thai is Do(t) Bet pronounced with a very short, almost silent (t).bozzman101 wrote:hi Randy sow wow is the issan for thai tuk bet female self gratification![]()

I think this thread should get back to more civilised, conversational Thai.
Please feel free to open a thread in Night Crawlers for teaching this style of Thai language if you so wish, not on the main forum please.

How about something helpful for smokers.
Sorry if you all know this but i didnt and simulating flicking a ciggarette to bar staff everytime i needed one.
Kikiaburi, Ashtray
Ficheck, Lighter

Something ive noticed is the way to ask for the bill when youve eaten or sat in a bar and ran up a tab.
Correct me on this if im wrong with anything, Its nice to know if im making mistakes.
To get attention of the waiter, staff.
Nong Khap, if its a man waiter?
Pi Khap, for a waitress?
Check bin khap, This seems to be more westernised way of saying it I dont say it myself.
Gep dtang Khap
Gep dtang duey khap whats the difference with the duey?? Some Thais ive eaten with say it, Some havent so i tend to leave it out as majority dont. Is it a regonal thing?

Khun Khap is correct for any waiting staff, Male or Female.
Phi Khap to somebody older than yourself is more respectful.
Noo or Nung khap is said to people considerably younger than yourself.
This applys for anything though. I have a few older Thai friends who I call Phi ***.
A friend of my GFs who is just a week younger than me I call Nung *** just to annoy her.

Chek Bin for a Restaurant, Gep dtang for a noodle stall or similar.
Duay means also, so your friends are just saying "I'll have my bill as well"

Going back to asking for a bill, what I was told is that you use chek bin when you're going to get a proper bill (VAT etc), so in a decent restaurant etc, whereas gep dtang is used when the staff are totaling things up from a scrap of paper, so a noodle stall as has been mentioned.
Don't know if that's technically correct, but it works for me.

Might just be as simple as formality,
Check Bin - Formal
Gep dtang - Informal
Wouldn't surprise me if it's just a Thai society 'snooty' rule, if you're at decent restaurant then it's "Check bin" aand if on the street then it's "Gep dtang". Can't imagine the high society Thais using the same words as are used on the street for one minute, the 'ski-jumped noses' would never allow it.
However, I may also be wrong aswell, just a calculated guess.
