Re: Paris Olympics July/August 2024
Just announced on BBC News - "Severe weather warning for Paris - high risk of strong Thunderstorms beginning this afternoon (Tues 30/07)"
Hardly good news for the organisers, especially for events in the Seine with the Men's Triathlon already delayed due to levels of pollution - heavy rain will certainly not help matters.

There's talk now that the triathlon will be turned into a "Duathlon". Bike and run only.

That was an exciting group match in men's hockey! In a match between the current world top two ranked teams GB went two down against NL and pulled them both back in the last 6 minutes. Both teams looking strong, but a very tight marking match by NL left GB fighting for clear shooting chances. NL had most possession until the third quarter, GB finally pulled it back to 50/50, important in a very tight match.

It may not be from Paris, but it's quite an image for the Olympics!!
. .
"Jérôme Brouillet’s photo of the floating surfer is a potentially defining image of the 2024 Olympics, and came off a wave that gave the Brazilian his best score yet
On a distant reef 16,000km from Paris, surfer Gabriel Medina has given Olympic viewers one of the most memorable images of the Games yet, with an airborne celebration so well poised it looked too good to be true.
The Brazilian took off a thundering wave at Teahupo’o in Tahiti on Monday, emerging from a barrelling section before soaring into the air and appearing to settle on a Pacific cloud, pointing to the sky with biblical serenity, his movements mirrored precisely by his surfboard."

Need to amend my post. Thai guy Vitidsarn (seeded 8 ) just demolished his Finn opponent in the men's Badminton. They are one win each in the group stage, but Thailand look just superior, he rolled his opponent over.

GB ladies playing S. Africa in the hockey now, SA one goal up after first quarter.
Edit: now 1-1 after 5 mins of the second period. Go!
Terrific second goal by GB from an aerial pass, trapped and shot first time.

Are they guaranteed a medal now, or is there a 3rd/4th place play off?

There's a long way to go yet. The top four teams from each of the two groups go through to the last eight.
Good news in women's triathlon though, bronze for GB.
Oh, and I forgot to watch women's synchro 10m diving earlier, we got a bronze there too. It's too hard to keep up with all the sports....

Sorry, when you said quarter, I read that as quarter final

Thai lady Intanon just started her badminton group match against an opponent from Taipei, watching.
Sorry, I'm having a nightmare with the scheduling, so hard to know when something starts when different matches are played on the same courts/table etc.. Actually she was already one game up, and just won the second.
She's won her group and is through to the next round. And an absolute beauty!

First ever Olympic gold medal for Guatemala, and this time a new world record! Women's trap shooting.
They've been in the competition since 1952. Only one silver and one bronze in previous games.

Re: Paris Olympics July/August 2024
My last post today as I think my eye infection will call a halt to TV watching for the night, after a long session today.
GB have two lads in the men's artistic gymnastics starting at 2230h Thai time. I think we aren't too bad at this!

I just watched the highlights of the Men's Triathlon, another gold for Team GB. Yee looked well beaten by the Kiwi in the running stage, 14 seconds behind, but dug really deep and pulled it back to take the tape.
Today starts like this:

GB have an entry in the 20km silly walk medal currently showing. He was gold medal winner in the 2016 Junior Olympics, but no medal last year.
