I always thought Dr. Pairat was joking when he said "Do you want a reading eye?"
He wasn't. On completion he told me that I had a 'reading' eye. "Isn't that going to cause confusion?"
"Of course not. Your brain will allow both eyes to work as one".
He was right. I can still read the smallest print without glasses after some years. I've actually got better eyesight now than at anytime in my life!

It is a technique called 'monovision' where each eye has a different focal lens length, one for far vision, typically your dominant eye, and one for near vision. The brain can adapt over time so you get blended vision over the whole range.
I opted not to have it as I do have uncorrected astigmatism and still drive quite a bit so preferred to keep both monofocal lens set at long distance and use glasses for corrected vision when reading.
