Small clashes between rival demonstrators after government busses in royalists
Small clashes took place in Bangkok on Wednesday between pro-monarchy demonstrators and state officials and student-led demonstrators.

Anti-government protests have taken place throughout the country for the past three months with student protesters calling for the removal of the Prayut Chan-ocha government and a rewriting of the military-drafted constitution.

A major rally is taking place on Wednesday with rallygoers planning to march onto government house to press their demands.

...

The government and state security officials were seen bussing in royalist supporters on Wednesday morning into the same area where pro-democracy protesters were scheduled to hold their rallies.

With the two groups in close proximity, several small scuffles broke out between the rival protesters before police officers moved in to separate the two sides.

And so it begins ... again ...

That comment was well placed however the government only substantiates its own position in the population with such an action and that's not very smart considering the situation.

Police clear protest as emergency decree bans gatherings
The government banned gatherings of five or more people and the publication of news or online messages that could harm national security early on Thursday under an emergency decree to end Bangkok street protests.

Protests have escalated for three months and protesters set up camp outside Government Houseto demand his resignation late on Wednesday. The government said it also acted after demonstrators obstructed a royal motorcade.

"It is extremely necessary to introduce an urgent measure to end this situation effectively and promptly to maintain peace and order," state television announced.

It was accompanied by a document setting out measures that took effect from 4am to ban big gatherings and allowing authorities to ban people from entering any area they designation.

It also prohibits: "publication of news, other media, and electronic information that contains messages that could create fear or intentionally distort information, creating misunderstanding that will affect national security or peace and order."

Pretty standard response from a dictatorship - don't like anti-govt protests and free speech - make it illegal.

Could have done with a slice of this over in the UK beginning June. Instead, impressionable minds got warped with hate-fueled propaganda every day.

This is impossible to police though. Firstly, fb and twitter would have to be banned as they are the 2 main culprits for the spread of poisonous info. Even with a ban this wouldn't work of course.

We're in the age of misinformation. And it's here for the long haul. Nothing a prime minister or dictator can do about that.

You are of course completely misinterpreting the meaning, which appears to have been lost in translation. It should read: "It also prohibits publication of news, other media, and electronic information that contains messages that could create fear in the ruling elite or intentionally disseminate information that would let the general population know what is actually happening and might result in us losing our self-appointed lucrative positions."
This is the way

Khaosod English understands that an internal briefing compiled by the Metropolitan Police Bureau put the number of protesters at 13,500, "70% are youths." The real figure is probably higher than the police estimate.

Looks like the police and TAT use the same source for their calculations.

I have worked in a business (or used to) for over 30 years, that involves very large crowds of people.
I can tell you categorically, that there are a LOT more than 13,500 people in this picture alone.
