Re: Govt plans Pattaya - Hua Hin/Cha-am ferry link
Well, despite all the negativity, I am really hoping that we do see a ferry service here soon. Having spent many years offshore, with the last eight being on a ship in the North Sea, I often miss the feeling of being out on the water. Having a ferry service would be great because I can be on the water and I can visit Pattaya at the same time.
I'm in no hurry so I personally couldn't care less if the crossing took a few days, and the more that ferry rolls about, the more I am going to be loving it.

Bloody hell! Talk about overkill for an advert. It's a boat, not a rocket ship. In comparison look at the below that advertises a tunnel that connects two countries.StevePIraq wrote:Looks like it official, but going from Pranburi not Hua Hin
Couldn't stop laughing through that ferry crossing advert. You'd think that they had just re-invented the wheel.

The Thai people... you gotta love 'em.
Re: Govt plans Pattaya - Hua Hin/Cha-am ferry link
As the advert states......"FOR THAI PEOPLE" !!
Farangs are obviously not in the equation.

Crewed by Farangs though - the Captain looked Farang, as did the bar man.

Certainly sounds more appealing that 5+ hours in a minibus, but still no dates when it will be operational, I think still some years off

Wow. Where do they get those expected passenger numbers? 2.8 million passengers/yr = over 7,600 passengers daily.
"He said there would be 16 daily trips for the Pattaya-Pran Buri route and 20 for the Pran Buri-Bang Pu-Pattaya route."
Even if they don't mean a total of 36 ferrys daily, just 16 daily trips trans-gulf is a *lot*!

I wonder how much market research went into this. Do they really know who the target market is? For example, is it day trippers (locals and tourists) from Pattaya? Day trippers from Pranburi?
The given fares (1000 baht pp, 3000 baht per car) probably wouldn't appeal to too many Thai families - a two way trip for 4 could be 14,000 baht. Unless the car fare includes all passengers, in which case a return trip would still be 6,000 baht. Admittedly there are lots of attractions in Pattaya, but I'm not sure I would pay these fares to go see Hong Nuch Gardens.
Passengers from Hua Hin would possibly need to allow 1.5 to 2 hours for travel to the ferry port and boarding. I suppose buses to/from Hua Hin run by the ferry company are a possibility if there's enough demand. For those with their own cars it would probably cut travel time to Pattaya by only 2 hours.
If there were, say, a casino at one end of the route this venture might have a chance. But that's not the case. Or maybe something like Disneyland, with ferry and park price inclusive. Also unlikely.
Only my opinion, but I think this will go the same way as the hydrofoil service in 1989.
