Norm - you live on the 14th floor and have a cat? Can it fly or does it never go out?

I find even most of the developments here claustrophobic .I do not want to be shaking hands with my neighbour whilst having a shave because the houses are roof to roof .I also don't want to listen to the bickerings of residents associations run by jobsworths that have no clue what they are talking about or how to live in Thailand .That is why I choose to live in a small community of individual houses out in the hills .I am 6km from town at most yet I can walk my dog off the lead, ride the trail bike for miles around, fish the local ponds for my dinner and enjoy it with a nice cold beer at 7/11 prices whilst I watch the sunset from the lake restaurant before sipping a glass of wine in the pool naked if I wish.
:agree:
This is the way

She can go out on the balconies as we had all but one netted to keep the pigeons off, they can make a terrible mess.. If they were not netted she would no doubt end up taking flying lessons. Not very graceful as cats go.

We got here when she was a few months old, a stray that wandered into a friends yard and we took pity on her. Had her wormed neutered and all that good stuff. So far she has never met another cat or a dog. Not sure what she will do when she does. We have had her for 18 months so she is close to 2 years old.

Have struggled to post this on my I phone and failed miserably hopefully makes sense!!

I did have my reservations about posting this in respect for the victim but firmly believe this incident warrants publicity as a warning!

I apologise in advance if this female is part of our online community and i hope you understand my reasons for the post.
I make no reference to names or address. Most of our residents
have received the original e mail from the victim which appears to suport
this horiffic incident.

Last week a farang female living alone on the estate was Targeted by a Thai man with a gun. She had returned to her house in the evening. She states he did not ask for money or
mobile and tried to drag her into the house waving the gun around. The girl ran off!

If this storey is true which I believe
is the case then this takes these breakins to a much higher level. There have been several fatalities in our community over the past few years. This could have been another one!

As per ussual the police attended the scene with negative results.

I really feel for this girl and hope she can recover from this horrific incident. It also angers me immensly that this kind of behaviour occurs on my estate. That said this is LOS and maybe we should except if we want to live here then sometimes this is the price we must pay for s paradise!!

Well, I truly hope all is well, but the above is something of an oxymoron!

Hopefully some good will Come out of this incident:

Better security, closer community, bringing this idiot to justice before he kills someone but then i guess he just gets replaced by some other drug crazed idiot.

Given the current economic and social climate I guess this is now coming the 'Norm'
for Hua Hin very sad!

Last Thursday (9th) our house was broken into sometime between 3pm and 6.20pm. My netbook, camera, my mums camera, 4 cans of Chang, 4 apples, some Thai sausages, a tube of toothpaste and a small bottle of mouthwash were all stolen. The apples weren't even fresh ffs!! And to take MY Chang is just an insult! Luckily we're managing to see the lighter side of things now but for about 3-4 days after it happened I honestly couldn't sleep knowing that strangers had been rummaging through MY personal possession in MY home... it freaked me out. We have guards who routinely check the estate but unfortunately we're in a vulnerable spot. What angers me the most is I sold EVERYTHING I own just to spend a few months out here and what little possessions I did have have been taken away from me by (IMO) some overly jealous locals. Karma is a bitch though and hope it comes to bite them real hard in the butt!! :P

Does this only happen to 'farangs' or are Thais targeted as well? How do Thais secure their properties?

What about SJ's Alarm systems? Could they have prevented this incident?

Good point Mr P

You can fit an alarm system with cctv on long record to a hard drive, well hidden, and install a safe for around 50k or less all in on a 3 bed villa. I took a system from SJ and showed it to quite a few of the local residents along with camera systems that another friend imports. Only one ever took a system as far as I am aware. If you were a burglar which target would you choose? The one with the system that was full of bright lights and noise with a direct phonecall to the police and a nice bit of video footage to track you down or the one without?

Yes, I'm giving him a plug (through gritted teeth ). Why not if it's useful? Recommend someone else if it bothers you.

I'm just curious to find out whether in this particular incident an alarm system would have helped? What time of the day did it occur? Would the alarm be switched on if you had one?

We have an alarm system with the video and hard drive. We haven't had any incidents.

There are too many occasions where Thai burglars have been violent. It's not a pleasant thought.

These alarms call the police do they?

How does that work? :-)

I would imagine that the alarm calling the police is the easy bit :?

But the other way round?

JG they were doing that 20 years ago and more. Even a fairly basic system these days will alert a phone number or selection of phone numbers if the alarm is tripped. Getting the relationship with the police and making them understand can be a hurdle. As far as I know there is not a dedicated centre in Hua Hin that handles security breaches. Simply have the installer program in the relevant details and Roberts your mothers brother. Pretty much any system comes with a panic button option in case you are home and the system not armed.

I quite like the sound of all this high tech security didgeridoo stuff. How much would it cost to install?? Grown tired of sleeping with an axe under my pillow - it's not comfortable.
