'How To' - Requirements for visa extensions etc
Re: 'How To' - Requirements for visa extensions etc
It is simply a copy of the transaction transferring money into Thailand from the bank (Advice that your account has been Credited with an overseas transaction). After you've made the transaction, simply go to your bank and request a Credit Advice. Mine gets e-mailed to me within 5 days (often same day). I believe you can actually automate this process with some banks e.g. Bangkok Bank.
At the end of 12 months I take the 12 copies of my credit advices to immigration, and exchange them for another 12 months extention of my visa. Simples.
The procedure is easy, and works very well.

Thank you for replying. Am I to understand that if I then transfer my pension monthly, and in my case to Bangkok Bank, I will have to attend the bank every month to get a copy of the credit advice issued or can I get them all for 12 months a day or two before heading to Immigration?Big Boy wrote: ↑Tue May 06, 2025 6:03 pm It is simply a copy of the transaction transferring money into Thailand from the bank (Advice that your account has been Credited with an overseas transaction). As I said above, I do not use Bangkok Bank, but I am led to believe a visit to Bangkok Bank will enable you to set up an automatic e-mail containing your Credit Advice every time you transfer from overseas. You simply print the document when you receive it. If that is correct, the only bank visit will be to set the e-mails up.
Personally, I try to visit Kasikorn after each transfer to arrange my Credit Advice. However, I know others who visit once or twice a year to obtain all at the same time. Again, I am not sure, but I think they may make a small charge if it is an annual request - you would need to check with your bank regarding charges.
The reason I prefer monthly is in case a transaction goes astray i.e. Immigration require 12 monthly Credit Advices - if one transaction goes by an abnormal route (happened to me about 6 times in 6 years), there is a problem. On those occassions, Kasikorn will not issue a Credit Advice, and I've had to track the transaction down. Having said that, I've never heard of the stray transactions happening to anybody else.

I use the monthly transfer method, with Bangkok Bank, for many years now. 1. Each month I instruct my USA financial institution to initiate a bank wire transfer to my Bangkok Bank savings account.
2. The following business day (here in Thailand), at approximately 8:35am, I receive an automated text message (SMS from Bangkok Bank) on my phone confirming the money has arrived into my savings account, exchange rate, fee, etc.
3. Approximately 30 minutes later I receive an automated email from Bangkok Bank with an attached “Credit Advice Receipt” (in pdf format) confirming the date, amount, exchange rate, fee, etc, etc.
I print the Credit Advice Receipt and file it in my visa renewal file for use at immigration the next time I renew. I also electronically file the automated email (with pdf) in a folder in my email system (gmail) in case I need to reprint it for some reason. I signed the forms to request items 2 and 3 above at the Bluport branch of Bangkok Bank, it was more convenient than driving out to Boonthavorn branch where I originally opened the account. This system has worked flawlessly for many years now.

Yes, this is what I was hinting at when I said, "A visit to Bangkok Bank will enable you to set up an automatic e-mail containing your Credit Advice every time you transfer from overseas."
The other advantage of using Bangkok Bank is I believe all transfers (regardless of final Thai Bank) hit Thailand at Bangkok Bank, which eliminates the possibility of transactions going astray i.e. no need for cunning detective work to track your transaction down.

Further to what I've be talking about, I went down to Kasikorn this morning to order my latest Credit Advice. Something the girl said, that should be checked by others (I never leave it more than 2 months) is that the Credit Advice service is only available for transactions in the last 3 months.
I know several people that go to the bank once a year to order their Credit Advices just in time for visa renewal. If the girl was right in what she said, this may no longer be possible.

It used to be that up to 3 months was available free, after that you have to pay. But that only seemed to count when printed for you. Since they have been emailing them to me, its been free. On saying that, I am well overdue to collect my last lot.Big Boy wrote: ↑Wed May 07, 2025 12:34 pm Further to what I've be talking about, I went down to Kasikorn this morning to order my latest Credit Advice. The whole thing is a farce in anycase, as we all known. Credit advice x 12 + 12 months bank statements + letter from the bank + bank book. A letter from the bank should suffice to cover all that and make life easier for everyone.
Talk is cheap

Then I am set up to receive monthly credit advice from Bangkok Bank. A somewhat reluctant bank employee at first because the account was once opened in another province, but it helped to say that I know others have had this set up. I said that I need it only by e-mail but I signed 3-4 documents so I guess I will get both email and text message! All in all, excellent service form Bangkok Bank. Would take 5-7 days before its up and going which is no problem for me because its first next year, I will go down this route when applying for extension.
I Allow me a few other questions! Does the Credit advice`s have to be brought back to the bank branch for signature or can I only sign myself and take them to immigration?
If and as example I`m permitted to stay until 25. August 2026 when should the 12- month Bank statement starts from and how long time before application can it be issued from the bank? I actually get a 12-month statement from the bank already for tax purposes
and in my experience, they need to get that from head office in Bangkok, and it take approximate a week before I receive it at the blue port branch here. Also, when do the update of Bank book have to be done? Is it same day as application or can you do it a couple days before?
Many thanks for all of yours information.

I simply print the Credit Advice attached to my e-mail - nobody signs them.

In my case, my visa extension expires on 5 July. I always renew in about the 2nd week of June. My Credit Advices will always run from 30 June the previous year until 31 May in the current year. The supporting bank statement has to include the period 30 June to 31 May to allow the Immigration Officer to check the transactions.

Again personally, I get my bank letter on the same day I do my extension. Before getting the letter, I always draw 100฿ from the ATM.

I concur with everything Bigboy says above as I mainly do my renewals the same way. With the 12 month statement, I print it off the Bangkok Bank web site, which works well but doesn’t allow me to print the most current date, doesn’t seem to bother the IO. I’ve also simply used a photocopy of my bank book, as I keep it updated every couple months. With either document, I use a Yellow highlighter to flag the foreign transfers for easy reference.Big Boy wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 4:13 pmHahuahin wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 3:56 pm I Allow me a few other questions! Thanks again. I have taken a screenshot of all the good advice here so even with my bad memory I should be able to find back to it. Btw, Scout, how do you make to print the statement for 12-months? Do you print it out for the first 6 months of the period statement have to be valid and then for the last 6 months? I use online banking with Bangkok bank but have only heard that I can print out up to 3 months of the last transactions, but then again, I have never tried!Scout wrote: ↑Thu May 08, 2025 7:17 pmI concur with everything Bigboy says above as I mainly do my renewals the same way.
