In reply to the previous post suggesting an affiliation with AIHH. I only have an affiliation with my (worryingly expanding by the day) stomach. It demands only the finest and most delicious food, and I must satisfy its cravings else suffer the consequences. AIHH fit the bill.

The issue here now seems to be how any owner of a retail business, but particularly food and beverage, can know if his staff are offering the service their customers expect or demand. As I have already said on this thread, no doubt whenever the owner of AIHH is present everything is tickety boo and the customers are happy or any problems dealt with properly; but when the owner is not there it seems as if standards are not the same. This, i am sure is true of most businesses worldwide, and i can almost guarantee that every single owner would want to know when there was something wrong, which is why, however petty the complaint may seem, they should at least be told. Different people have different standards, and some of the complaints mentioned in this thread would not bother me at all, but that doesn't matter - they bothered those individuals and the owners should know that; how they react to those comments is another matter, and I would be far more interested in their response than the initial complaint, but of course they don't know so how can they do anything about it?

just my opinion, and again, apologies

super? joe, you completely missed it.

"explain her olive policy" subtle humor,

Olive or not
I went to this paze 4 years ago, I went there two times ... And I figure out that this is not the plaze to return to ... I have never gone back due to bad service and policy and probably I would rather starve than go back to that place.

WOW! I've been on Koh Tao for the last week and had no idea this thread had caused such interest. To the few people claiming that I've got some axe to grind. No I don't. The girl in AIHH was just a complete and utter beeaattchh and should in no way work in the service business. She's a money whore and cares not a jot about her customers.
Another thing I hate about AIHH. They do 'English' Breakfasts. They have English sausages in the fridge. But for some inexplicable reason, you get those horrible wee crappy hot dog things with your breakfast. What's that all about?
Anyway, I'm still on Koh Tao and having a great time. Have to say the general level of competence and politeness from staff here is WAY higher than Hua Hin where I often get served by incompetent, bored, sour faced staff. The food is also WAY WAY WAY better here and cheaper. This I can't understand as it's an Island with less access to ingredients. Maybe it's because it's a beautiful Island and the people are happier but coming from Hua Hin to this place is a real breath of fresh air.
One more thing before I go and this is off topic but why are all Thai menus so similar? It's the same thing in every bloody restaurant! Even the posher more expensive places have the same stuff but maybe just cooked slightly better. Don't get me wrong, I like Thai food but can't just a few Thai people come up with some new creative way of using their ingredients? I've had more interesting Thai food in London than in Thailand because the chefs there actually use their imaginations. Ok, it's not authentic but it's using the same ingredients and it tastes great. Maybe Thais should look to London to learn some new tricks.
Ok, enough. AIHH is shit by the way and I won't ever be going back. I really don't understand why people rate it so highly. Pork chops, mash and pickled cabbage. So what. Why doesn't someone in Hua Hin just start serving the same food and employ some staff with brains. It would put AIHH out of business. This wasn't a rant by the way and I'm actually very relaxed. Just had to grind my axe a bit more on the crap pit that is AIHH.

"I really don't understand why people rate it so highly"
to be fair kelpie you did rate it highly yourself before they talked crap to you, as some of us do
you did say in your op: "I've been to AIHH many times and really enjoyed the food, I've never had a complaint and recommended it to lots of people"
its totally understandable why youre not going back, but for those who like the food and havent been dissed yet i guess theyre gonna carry on

I've never had a problem there. Ok service a bit slack but I always go with the Thai wife in tow and the food always good
One comment a senior member of staff said 'why does nobody smile' My retort was ' because they are German'
And I was sat with my Uboat commander friend at the time. He smiled
If you don't smile back your not going to get good service.
Many of these girls are still learning and if you don't smile you make them feel inadequate and scare them, so they ignore you
It pays to smile and be civil

Kelpie Kiss,
To a substantial extent (based on a minimal sampling of once...
), I agree with you about AIHH. Haven't found a reason to go back after that one time.
WRT Thai food; London is one of the great melting pots of the world. You may have had great food there, but how much of it could be truly called 'British'? French, Italian, Indian and Chinese for sure, but British? Hmm. Thailand has not had a colonial history, and although it has influences (Malay to the south and Chinese to the north), it simply hasn't had the input to develop the kind of fusion dishes that London (and Singapore, perhaps a better example) has.
As an aside, consider the chili. Introduced by the Portuguese, where would the Thais be without it? Papaya salad just wouldn't be the same...
In many respects I agree with the 'olive' argument. My own bugbear is Caesar Salads. Specifically, they contain Romain lettuce (Cos, if you prefer), shaved Parmesan, and a garlic and anchovy sauce. I am just *way fed up* of the places that pump out some non-descript concoction, and justify it with the phrase 'well, that is *our* Caesar salad'. If a plate of chips don't contain potatoes, it ain't a plate of chips, no matter what the advertising or management says... (
rant over)

I started no olive war thread. I "merely" added my experience in AIHH which reflected an attitude similiar.
To set the record straight and upchuck the words you try to put in my mouth, I DID NOT "rip someones food to bits." I made no comment on the quality or lack of the food. I commented on the COMPOSITION of the advertized dish.
You chose to to raise the bar on the olives with your personal attack of
"petty complainer"

Super Joe, we'll just agree to disagree about the value of an olive in a greek salad, potatoes v apples in a waldorf, or whatever lettuce etc is called a Caesar salad.
Thanks for playing. Your a good sport.
See ya on another thread. where sometimes we do agree. Out!

it was just something you wrote simon:
"was presented with this bowl of what I will call spagetti soup. mostly soggy spagetti pasta (left over from yesterday?) No red beans, no garbonzos, no taste"
"On retrospect my piece of fish at ……, reminds me of Dover sole, thin cut, mushy, and tasteless"
"the fish didn't flake, it mushed, kinda like the mushy peas, and no flavor"
"I got in a hassel with the owner of the ……. because my chicken enchilada was 90% red beans. I insisted there are no beans in a chicken enchi"
i wont mention the olive, i mentioned it once but think i got away with it (2 episodes after waldolf salad)
think its unfair on local businesses, struggling to compete in a very competitive market, to have cheap shots fired at them over what, in some cases, are 'one-off' bad dishes
your repeat visit to buffalo bills proved this

blinders on
I had blinders on Joe, while writing on the AIHH post.
Good Job of researching my posts.
Those would be my negative comments.
Would it be too much to ask you to be fair and balanced and post my postive restaurant comments?
thanks in advance
