anyplace showing rugby world cup?
Just woke up friends, another day in paradise, what a great place it is to be after beating the Aussies again in the RWC.
Even better news that the All Blacks got beat as well, so it is on to Paris we go, who knows perhaps we will retain the RWC after all.
Anyway I think it is about time to return to the scene of battle last night (my local) and continue with some more celebratory pints of Stella, and even more piss taking of the locals, god I love it

So ............. what are Northern Hemisphere teams going to be thinking about ................... Glory? How they sent the Southern Hemisphere packing? You're only as good as your last game.caller wrote:Some serious thinking will be done in the Northern Hemisphere after this world cup - we're standing still compared to the Southern teams - the English and the jocks only just made it to the QF!
As for the Aussies, this is getting boring at World Cups

BB, It was an exeptional day for rugby, but when I wrote what I did - and on the whole, I still stand by it - we had just been tonked by SA and France had lost to Argentina, until England yesterday against the aussies, none of the home nations had looked good (not including France, of courser).
I thought the pace of the game in the France/NZ match was outstanding and I just hope England can rise to that. I still worry that sometimes we appear to be standing still!
Time will tell.

Re: rwc
France's victory was even more enjoyable to watch simply because the winning score contained 2 forward passes. Poetic justice for all the ball won illegally by McCaw and his cohorts down the years. To be fair, none of the NZ players called it at the time so it must have been very difficult to spot.redzonerocker wrote:you are correct pete, unbelievable!!
firstly , the aussies underestimated the english underdogs tag. you just don't turn up expecting to win when you are playing england, at any sport!
secondly, when rugby fanatics ( i'm not, football first) shout the odds about the superior technology for the criticalrugby decisions, how come france are in the semi finals ahead of a far better team on the night (new zealand) courtesy of a try scored with a forward pass.
quite often i engage in the debate of whether technology could be used in football, but as you was witnessed tonight, the better team lost by a mistake or something the officials missed
the whole pub screamed 'forward pass' tonight, yet the referee didnt hear or see it
i have no axe to grind, it doesn't matter to me,i think we have more chance of beating the french than the kiwis but the call for more technology for football decisions has taken a dent because the outcome was wrong even with the technology available

Swing low, sweet chariot,
Comin' for to carry me home;
Swing low, sweet chariot,
Comin' for to carry me home.
I looked over Jordan,
And WHAT did I see,
Comin' for to carry me home,
A band of angels comin' after me,
Comin' for to carry me home.
Swing low, sweet chariot,
Comin' for to carry me home;
Swing low, sweet chariot,
Comin' for to carry me home.
If you get there before I do,
Comin' for to carry me home,
Tell all my friends I'm comin' too,
Comin' for to carry me home.

Very few chances for either side but ultimately I think France were so scared of losing they just couldn't win. They played virtually all the rugby in the second half but still created very little in the way of clear cut chances and they never looked like getting past England's 'they shall not pass' defence.
As the biggest rugby nation (results wise) never to win a world cup, I really wanted France to win this one and it's the best chance they'll ever get but I just don't think they did enough, at home and with so much at stake, to deserve to beat England today.
As a neutral though, the thought of this current England side winning the world cup is a bit like contemplating another Italy or Germany victory at the soccer version - they know how to grind out a win!

Still, the lads are there - well done, and roll on next Saturday, whoever the opposition may be
As an avid England (any sport) supporter, I was actually surprised this year to see them even get to the quarter finals. To beat Australia, let alone France was way beyond my wildest considerations this time.As a neutral though, the thought of this current England side winning the world cup is a bit like contemplating another Italy or Germany victory at the soccer version - they know how to grind out a win!
