sateeb, please read the post. I am not talking about Udon Thani, which I agree has an active bar scene/farang influence.

Again, a large town (city, I'd guess) with a big Farang influence.

My point is that these large Farang populated cities are not really representative of Thailand. The bars, etc have arrived after the Farangs. It is looking ever more like new normal does not have a huge place for the Farang population. I don't think the Government give a hoot whether Farang style girly bars survive or not - Thailand will be different in their minds.

Just thinking outside of the box - Tha Yang is just up the road, and reminds me of a typical Thai town - what is the bar scene like there?

This is a bit out of date. Check Inn and the Beer Garden have gone, although another bar opened where Check Inn was. The George and Dragon is a dump and for sale. My favourite bar for an occasional drink was the Tiger is Coming which boasts over 300 beers from around the World, some on tap. Needless to say, the prices meant this was more of a Hiso place.

Farangs are very spread out in Korat, again not as reported above, as there is no real centre to the city. Go behind the Mall and you are in a World of narrow, quiet lanes with more foliage and small scale farming than residents. And that is geographically pretty central. Initially, Joho to the north seemed the main area for expats, but now they are spread out all over. Going into town at night is difficult unless parking is available. A lot of expats have their own watering holes wherever they live. One or two are owned by and run for expats, the others are local restaurants, used as watering holes for a few farangs to gather for a beer.

I don't know the bar scene in Tha Yang, but there is a night entertainment for long distance truck drivers along the road.

Yes Thai style, and not a bar as we know it. Did it actually close?

Here where I am in Europe, the bars and restaurants opened last month with similar restrictions and basically the only ones that are doing good trade are those with large outdoor seating areas. Any without are really struggling to make any business and some very small bars haven't even bothered opening.
Of course, this also means that nightlife is now dependent on the weather because if it starts raining, there isn't enough seating available inside for all the customers.

If not raining, as Binta is a walking street, they should put tables and chairs on the road.

Funny list: You cannot drink with staff, but can go to room or to your house and drink there.
No wandering around !! Cannot go to restroom ??

I did a little bit of a 'bar tour' yesterday. Restrictions? I never saw any!
All the bars I saw, including Soi 80 seemed to be open as they always were. No masks or 'distancing'. The real difference seemed to be a lack of custormers.
This was afternoon until early evening. Maybe it was different after dark.

Interesting. Must say curiosity killed the cat and i had to go out!
Firstly it was raining about 6 to 7.45 ish. So that cant of helped numbers
Secondly I went out about 8, firstly to Bintablock area. Didnt hang around or study carefully but after a very quick circuit, I would guess about 70% of the bars there had reopened. Looked low on customers
The one bar I went to had restrictions(Name, phone number, hand gel, laser head temp) Initially thought I couldn't play pool but then shortly afterwards was given clearance)
Then I went to Soi 80 and I would guess 75% of bars were open(some have been open for a while now)
Then I went to BKP/94 link road and 'most' of the bars there had reopened but it was dying probably due to the later hour
Distancing- i was conscious to keep my distance but would agree that this is not taking place as such, including bar hostesses hugging customers(behave!)But opening bars and social distancing is hardly going to work!
Overall felt anticlimactic for the big 'reopening'. The weekend should be interesting if all the BKK crowd continue to invade
Anyone else go out last night ?

I was told by several that the 'no pool' rule was rescinded 2 days ago but I've not seen anything official.
