Stuff from Tesco, Makro and Big C is good, but where does that money go? Just providing a few more options for that special something you crave, but can't find in HH. PS - Where can I find VEGEMITE?

Vegemite available in Villa today in aisle 4 (Baby Food, Jams & Spreads!) both in a jar and in a tube, cheek by jowl with Marmite and Mad Cow Bovril and half the price of either! Love the stuff myself!

Was given a bottle by a departing Aussie friend a couple of years ago, and used it (through their recipe) to make a great couple of relishes. Cannot source in China and did not find on my last visit to OZ (admittedly limited time). I can't imagine it's available in Hua Hin or Thailand for that matter, but one can only hope...

Your question intrigued me so I did a little nocturnal web research and discovered Ezy Sauce ia a Cerebos product. Cerebos is headquartered in Singapore, so there's some hope. I've emailed Cerebos on both our behalves and will post any news, whether good or bad!

In the meantime I discovered a recipe for a DIY Ezy Sauce from an old Aussie duck (I assume) called oldsheila:
ezy sauce
Skin and cut up 6lbs. ripe tomatoes
1 lb. onions
t tablespoon garlic
into a saucepan
simmer gently for 2 hours
rub through sieve
add one pint vinegar
2 tablespoons salt
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
tie 1 oz. ginger, and 12 cloves in muslin bag
and add to pan
Boil slowly for half and hour.
Cool, bottle , cork and seal.

Might be worth a try?

Failing which, it's stocked in some Woolies in Oz.

On my rummaging around looking for Vegemite in Villa I came across a tub of goose fat. Now if a goose isn't the quintessential Christmas bird (Charles Dickens anyone?) I don't know what is. Question is - where's my goose coming from?

Many thanks for that easyas - may well give that recipe a try when I have a bit more time on my hands...... alternatively persuade someone from the Australian office to pop into Woolies before their next trip up to China!!

Always used to have goose for Christmas. Used to go and choose my own from a local farmer. He kill it but I'd have to gut it and pluck it.

So there you have it easyas, from a farm in Yorkshire!!

Getting Turkeys in HH is difficult enough (ok Makro and HH H&B do them), but I doubt anybody does geese?

Turkeys belong to our friends across the ditch - no substitute for a goose!

And they have vegemite, but at that price the jar must be gold plated!

Just out of interest I compiled a brief shopping list of about 10 items and the goods came to a few pence short of £80 and the delivery to Thailand was near as damn it £90, so £170 in total for goods that in a UK supermarket would have been about £50. Makes Villa Market look more than reasonable and to be honest many of the items on their listing are available at one of the many outlets selling western foods in HH.

I'm afraid Oz is your only hope - Cerebos confirm Ezy Sauce is only sold in Australia.

For those who like a goose for Xmas..........

If there are enough of you, I will gladly raise a few on our property and make sure they are ready for next Xmas. And for those who are too squeamish to do the deed, I'm sure my father in law will kill, gut and pluck them for a small fee.

How about a few Turkeys too - this could work out as a nice little enterprise? :thumb:
