Gone are the days when the Brits were the plucky amateurs having to train before or after a full time job whilst the Americans were pseudo students doing dodgy college courses and the East Europeans were all in the military. Proper funding has reaped its rewards. Let`s hope for more medals today and really ram it up that pr*ck of a French president who said they would have done a better job in Paris. Oh, and their golden boy lost to Jason Kenny in the velodrome.

Why so?

I'd say it's a fair comparison vs the US and most of Europe. China and Jamaica not so much.

Just watching these guys doing the tri-athalon. I could have done that 40 years ago with my Raleigh drop-handlebar and 3 speed Sturmey Archer gears.

^^Girls!! What's the problem, Mr P not on this thread? It was meant as a joke - I am based in China, with a Chinese wife....hence the comment regarding my situation

As to bollocks - population vs medals? Sorry guys, but can we do a demographic? Appologies if I've riled anyone, never my intention. Let's just get back to what matters and congrats to team GB!!

You haven't riled me, I just thought you were saying it wasn't significant. Population and sporting investment are obviously huge factors.

So yeah, Team GB are kicking ass.

Of course significant BaaBaa, however what % of the UK vs China can't afford to feed themselves though? Let's keep away from this or put elsewhere though.......

As said, GB kicking well above their weight IMHO so keep on!!

If Yorkshire were independent they would be 7th on the medal table....

If Yorkshire was independent, there would have been more lottery funding for the rest of the UK, and Yorkshire would not have been able to afford the train fare to the Olympics. :D
Championship Plymouth Argyle 1 - 2 Leeds Utd

Points 46; Position 23 RELEGATED

There's a wonderful video clip of Redgrave creeping up on Hoy and hugging him. It's a clip on BBC sport in the article linked here http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/olympics/18903411

After the two Brownlee brothers performance in the triathalon, they're certainly doing well:

Yorkshire moves ahead of Australia and Japan on Olympics medals table
