The MGB engine is one of the most reliable you can find, especially the 5 bearing engine. That's why so many still survive today!STEVE G wrote:It might be a bit more reliable!he has an MGB GT for sale: with a frigging Toyota engine in it!

Re: The Car Challenge
I assumed the grill would be a give away as an MG and make it a lot easier to narrow down the model, but I hadn't expected it to look as similar to that Lagonda - if they had been the same colour, they would have looked almost identical!! I'd be happy to own either of themNereus wrote:Better not post any difficult ones then.Dannie Boy wrote:Shouldn't be too difficult, what's this beauty?

The suicide doors are only on the front, as most of them were. Most confusing! What I should have noticed is the placement of the spare wheel, the SA had them on the boot lid. Here are the rear views that I promised

There is a nice MG A listed here:sandemb wrote:Guess I'll go the hard way and try and find something in TH!Nereus wrote:I have been through it also many years ago and paid the price. But, I was just talking with a guy (Thai) yesterday that restores old cars as a business. He says it can still be done, and I woulkd say that you MAY be able to do it with a guy like that. It needs to come in in a Thai name, no Farangs mentioned, or in sight. There are many well connected people that have old cars, and for sure they have away to do it.sandemb wrote:Just an aside on this thread - There are many classic car enthusiasts in Thailand. Is there any contacts or a way of getting in a 30+ year old car into TH without paying ridiculous import duties. Would love to take a couple of my cars there, but not going to pay 4 times what it is worth!

Some of the prices being asked for other cars are hair raising!

1 million baht for a good condition MGA is not a bad price and compares well with what you would need to pay in the UK.Nereus wrote: There is a nice MG A listed here:

Yes, I agree if it is as described, about the same as Oz. Not sure about the wheels on that one though, I thought they came with wire spoke wheels.Dannie Boy wrote:1 million baht for a good condition MGA is not a bad price and compares well with what you would need to pay in the UK.Nereus wrote: There is a nice MG A listed here:

There has been talk recently that the Government has banned the import of ALL secondhand cars. If that is true then the prices will only go up. The guy that has the MG B for sale says it is not so, that it is still possible to import if done the right way.

Looking at the badge on the rear wing - it might be a MK 1 Ford Lotus
