At this time of year it's no problem but between December and March with high tides you have to walk through the umbrellas at many points on the beach.

Personally speaking, I enjoy eating and drinking at the beach restaurants and if they take those away, the beach has no other attraction to me; I'm not going to lug a kitchen to the beach!
Incidentally, I notice that in Phuket they have got rid of all the small operators but have made no move on several five-star resorts and marina complexes that also encroach on public land.

Yes, I can see that on some of those naturally beautiful beaches, clearing them is perhaps a good thing but if you clear Hua Hin beach, it won't look like that because you have a couple of kilometres of large buildings behind it. I wonder about Cha Am as well, everyday there are thousands of Thais there sat on deckchairs under umbrellas eating seafood, if they get rid of that, the place will die.

I agree 100%. Mrs BB often says lets nip up to Cha-Am for lunch, and she becomes one of Steve's thousands. Take it away, and we'd no longer have reason to go there.

Do you remember the old Cha-Am? Certain days were classed as beach cleaning days, and there'd be nowhere to sit apart from sand (I'm not designed to sit on sand). It put me off Cha-Am for years.

I'm not designed to sit in those sling back beach chairs... I have to fall into them and need the help of a small crane getting out of it!

If they must have chairs I would prefer the straight back chairs with regular height tables like at the restaurants just behind the beach, or if they must use those low tables I would rather sit on a towel directly on the sand, maybe with one of those Thai triangular pillows to lean on.

That sling type of chair is made for sun bathing, so why put them under umbrellas with those 1 foot off the ground tables that you cannot possibly reach while sitting in the laid back chairs.

Yes, I think it was Wednesday when there was nowhere to sit. I went to Cha Am beach for lunch several times over the last couple of weeks, there are several places that have live seafood that they cook straight from the tank and it's excellent at very reasonable prices.

Its a good thing to clean up beaches from restaurants who occupy public land, but if Thai authorities wants tourists they have to allow beach restaurants, so they have to give some permits in a limited quantity. And what will do all others, who lost their restaurants ? Did the junta think at that ? I know that Thais cannot think to two different matters at the same time. Let's see...

That used to be me, in fact there was a beach bar in Pattaya that used to have an outsized one which appeared, out of storage, on the beach a few hours after I'd arrived.

Fortunately, the 'slender me' can just about manage those chairs nowadays.

I agree about the low tables though.

I've been on the beach this afternoon on the beach behind Condotel, and there were still plenty of beach vendors - maybe not as many as high season, but that's understandable.

This link is, I believe, confirming that some establishments have been given a reprieve until after the Royal Birthday. Demolition will happen on 13th August.

I took a walk onto the beach at the end of Soi 71 at 11am this morning. I took a couple of photographs to compare with when I did my beach walk earlier this year. Apart from there being a few less sun beds (seasonal reduction), I don't think anything has changed.

A lot of fuss about nothing?

Hua Hin beach cleanup faces challenge
Only one small business operator on Hua Hin beach agreed to return the beach to the public, while the remaining 60 seek more explanation.

As of today, the 60 business operators submitted a petition to PM’s Office, saying they would follow the order only if the rule is applied to all big operators in the area.

All operators are told to remove their stalls and other items from the beach as part of the military-led cleanup scheme.
