Music - what are people listening to now?

I'm the same, I can hear it, but can't watch it without subscribing. Or is the only thing to watch the American flag?

It's a sample of an Album that's yet to be released. It's not even a single. No video for it.

Can't they leave the poor man to rest in peace? His music will still be there in 20 years time, as it has been for the last 40+!

Just been brought to the modern masses hasn't it?
No doubt will add lots of cash to his estate. Don't see the problem, that's what Hip Hop does and it would've obviously got the go ahead from his family.
Woe is me!

Its a generation thing Baa-Baa. I love the soul music of his era (before mine) and to me, hip-hop is the only 'new' music to have emerged that I truly dislike. So a double-whammy!
Booker T and the MG's with the incomparable Steve Cropper, were the sound behing many soul classics, including Reddings:

Thanks Caller! That brought back some great memories!

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

I'm with baabaa on this(re otis).Things move forwards in music and this "is" class. I sometimes wonder about the title of this thread. Its called "what are people listening to now" but too many times we see videos posted of what everyone was listening to 30 odd years ago. Did everyone stop listening to anything new as soon as they reached middle age??? I'm 47 but my musical brain hasn't dried up quite yet and i'm always looking for something new and challenging to listen to.
Remember "all you need is love??" McCartney openly admits he stole the verse from 3 blind mice, and then how many old blues riffs did the stones nick from the old bluegrass boys??? Could this be considered the equivilent of sampling in its day???? Is what Mr West and Mr Z have done so different and so wrong???

I don't dislike hip hop specifically, and musicians aren't always saints, but anything with Kanye does not get anywhere with me

That's about when mine dried up (and many would say not just the musical part).I sometimes wonder about the title of this thread. Seems that most people, even a lot of younger people prefer it too. When I watch shows like American Idol

Oh, and I don't listen to music to be challenged (and don't really understand that). I listen for pure enjoyment. Life is challenging enough without suffering through music I don't like just for the challenge.

Hauntingly beautiful stuff from Kathleen Edwards. I heard this last evening, well after midnight and that is exactly where it is at it's best.Need's a good sound system / headphones tho . Can't say the video does it justice so better close your eyes .....enjoy

Re: Music - what are people listening to now?
Interesting little debate above, and I can see both sides of the argument, but I have to agree with hhf when he says:
Having said that, I was listening to the Booker T Green Onions thing - before my time, interesting, but probably best left as a memory!
But I remember my Mum liking Adam Faith and some bloke who yodelled a lot, and my Dad listening to Gilbert & Sullivan and some tenor whose name escapes me now.
I remember seeing Hawkwind at that famous rock venue, Hastings Pier
and pretending to be a budding intellectual by trying to understand the Moody Blues and Pink Floyd.
My only point is that my own tastes have changed a lot over the years - you can't possibly expect everyone to like the same stuff, and I've never understood how it's possible to condemn anyone for the type of music they choose to listen to! (Edit: but I draw the line at the Black & White Minstrels!!!)
After hearing the violation of Otis Redding the other day, I went back and found some more of his stuff I hadn't heard in a long time - Dock of the Bay, etc. Definitely stands the test of time. But I wonder what he'd have said about hip hop borrowing his work? "Go for it" probably.hhfarang wrote:Oh, and I don't listen to music to be challenged (and don't really understand that). Old farts. Get with the times.
At what age is it that you only listen to music from your generation?
My Oasis CD would be burnt out but I binned that 10 years ago!
I can listen to Bob Dylan or Dizzee Rascal, a tune is a tune!

Well maybe middle aged fart for me, but I like, and dislike, music from all ages, and categories.
I am not huge fans of rap and country, but there are some I like, just not Kanye
