But even if you do buy something from Thailand, chances are that it was made in China anyway, just more expensive!!
Re: Buying online from Lazada
Yep, that was my whole point, its the same stuff being sold here at a premium, and consumers are figuring it out.Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2024 11:22 am But even if you do buy something from Thailand, chances are that it was made in China anyway, just more expensive!!

This article isn't about Laz but it does show how Temu is expanding within SE Asia, including Thailand, and what the countries affected by the expansion are trying to do about it:

Yep, looks like we're going to see more protectionism here ... which means monopolies and higher prices.
Crackdown on cheap foreign goods planned
The Commerce Ministry has drafted a plan to deal with an influx of cheap substandard goods from abroad.
There was a broad public outcry about the entry of foreign e-commerce platforms into Thailand leading to more substandard products being sold online, harming consumers and local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Consumer goods will be checked for safety and quality, especially those available via e-commerce online platforms such as Temu and Lazada, according to the Commerce Ministry.

The consumers are not harmed if they're getting the same products for less, its the companies/vendors and middlemen that are griping because they can't compete.

Re: Buying online from Lazada
I just tried to buy some items from Shopee only to find that my Shopeepay account has been banned. I have enough funds in the account and have no idea why this has happened. I have spent the last hour going round in circles trying to contact Shopee but with no success. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you resolve it?

Re: Buying online from Lazada
This is what I just received from Shopee.
-----------------------------------------------
We understand the importance of your relationship with us, and we would like to assure you that your status as our customer has been valued. The decision to close all foreign users’ ShopeePay accounts aligns with applicable regulations and internal policies designed to ensure effective risk management and compliance. This ensures that we can provide our services to the best of our compliance.
----------------------------------------------
Can anyone explain the reasoning behind this? I also have a Lazada Wallet and I wonder if this will be closed as well.

Re: Buying online from Lazada
Thailand is in the process of blocking/closing payment platforms and systems for foreigners because we can't get a NDID (national digital ID) to comply with their identity verification systems. It started with PayPal and will soon include all payment platforms so yes, your Lazada wallet will be next since foreigners can't even apply for one.

Re: Buying online from Lazada
I was never permitted a Lazada wallet, so I don't see the problem. I'll simply continue handing over cash at the front gate.

I have 2000+ Baht in my Lazada wallet..& it seems that I have to submit a photo of my passport (& possibly even some other forms of ID) just to use/access this money..How safe is this site?..I have no real wish to be sending out my passport page/details..

Re: Buying online from Lazada
I just use my credit card. No problems
Re: Buying online from Lazada
I've used that a few times. I doubt the money is in a Lazada Wallet. You send the ID, and they will put the money into your bank account. A bit of a pain, and I generally order everything in my wife's name these days.usual suspect wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 8:38 pm I have 2000+ Baht in my Lazada wallet..& it seems that I have to submit a photo of my passport (& possibly even some other forms of ID) just to use/access this money..How safe is this site?..I have no real wish to be sending out my passport page/details..![]()

Me too. Never had any problems.Bubba1 wrote:I just use my credit card. No problems
Re: Buying online from Lazada
My Lazada wallet is used to pay for items although the only time it has any credit is when an item is refunded. When I buy something I select the wallet and it takes the amount rom my Thai bank account. If thee is any credit it will use this first before taking from my bank account. I have not tried to add money to it for a while so cannot comment on that aspect.
What is concerning is the amount of scammers on Lazada and as Big Boy says COD is the way to go.

Re: Buying online from Lazada
I've been using Lazada for years using my credit card and never had a problem.
However, I've been fighting with them for over 2 months now.
I ordered a freezer which they claimed was delivered on 25th November. I never arrived. No proof of delivery was shown and after many phone calls the answer was always "After investigation we can confirm the product was delivered correctly"
6 weeks later they produced a picture of the delivery. My name on the box but not my house and nobody in the locale recognises it.
Lazada have been paid, the supplier has been paid, the courier has been paid but I'm out for 3000 baht and someone has a free freezer.
Still fighting and the latest is "We've escalated it again to a specialise team and will get back to you"
I reported it the day after it was supposed to be delivered and it would have been so simple to sit the delivery guy down and just ask him "Show me where you delivered it" So easy.
I'll not use them until they sort this out and I'll never use a credit card again and always opt for COD.

Re: Buying online from Lazada
My issue is that Lazada never remembers my credit card number despite me ticking the appropriate box
Although I'm thinking now that might be a good thing
