Out where we live, an area south west of Cha Am called Khao Noi or Hop Kapong, we didn’t get any rain on Saturday night/Sunday morning but it came 24 hours later and very persistent it has been having not stopped since starting around midnight - here the power supply must have been upgraded because although the electricity went off a number of times during the night, it comes back on literally within a few seconds.

Thought the rainy season didn't start till around June/July? Seasons must have got mixed up as it rained during the previous night, rained again last night, still raining now and it's cold, had to dig out my jumper !
On the other hand we're saving on electricity as no AC needed.

Although the main season for rain doesn’t start until May onwards, virtually every year I can remember has 2 or 3 short wet periods from Jan-April

Khaosod English

Summer begins - The Meteorological Department announced that Thailand has entered summer season since February 28 and will end around the middle of May.

Hot weather is clearly felt in Bangkok, metropolitan areas, central region, eastern region, and central and lower parts of the northeast. Meanwhile, the northern region and upper northeast are experiencing heat later than other areas.

From today until March 5, the average temperature will be 37-39 degrees Celsius, while extremely hot temperatures of 40 degrees or higher may only occur in some areas.

Pleasant drop in temperature this morning and a number of moderate showers, bringing some relief from the recent hot weather.

Since posting earlier, it’s smashing it down here too!!

Edit, in fact smashing it down doesn’t do it justice, very, very heavy and loud overhead thunder and lightning!!

This drowned rat can confirm there was a little precipitation at Khao Tao Lake about an hour ago as well.

We only got light rain in Soi 106 this morning - it was a little bit heavier last night about midnight but nothing spectacular (no thunder or lightning, for example).

Waterspout hits Cha-am, roofs and debris fly in the air

Storm resulted in trees being uprooted and broken, but no reports of injuries or fatalities

Around 11am on Saturday, a severe storm with heavy rainfall and strong gusts of wind struck the villages of Nong Pho and Nong Kang in Cha-am district, Phetchaburi province. A massive waterspout followed, ripping off roofs and advertising signs, which were blown into the air before crashing down on nearby homes, causing extensive damage to dozens of houses in the area.

The storm also resulted in numerous trees being uprooted and broken, although there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities.

We didn’t have it as bad as that although it did get quite windy, but definitely no structural damage!!

According to ThaiMet...

We had 30mm of rain in Hua Hin in February which is double the average for the month

This means we are roughly 20% down on the year to date (Jan & Feb)

March should see 56mm average. We had dig downpours Sunday morning.
