Lots of loud thunder here on soi 6 but no rain at all.

We get them most of the year round, but tonight was the worst we've had this year so far.

Northern Summer Solstice today. Jack getting his belly warmed up:

Summer Solstice 2023: When Does Summer Start?

The summer solstice marks the start of summer. In the Northern Hemisphere, the summer solstice is in June; south of the equator, it is in December.

I’d like some rain, this must be one of the driest starts to the “wet season” I can remember!!

And I read somewhere a couple of weeks ago that there was NO rain expected in July.

Unfortunately, I cannot report accurate statistics because the ThaiMet website has not been updated for some time now.

But what I can say is that in the months of April and May combined we should have got between 160 and 300 mm of rain depending on which website you believe!

What was recorded by ThaiMet was only 33 mm from the 1st of April until the 25th of May inclusive.

So whilst this doesn't include the last 6 days of May suffice to say, we only got a fraction of what we should have got.

And again depending on who you believe then we should get another 80mm in June and another 100mm in July.

Not seen much of that.... yet!

Not in downtown Hua Hin anyways!

It was well reported on this site in around April that we were into El Nino conditions in this part of the world and that this year would be very much drier than the last two years. So don't be too surprised - we have seen it before!

I don't know how you're faring rain wise down there, but this is the driest monsoon season here in the east that I've ever experienced.

Senseless trying to save grass as it simply burns each day under a scorching sun and temps around 38c. Arid, miserable and not a drop at my place for a month.

If something doesn't change in a month or two there is going to be extreme difficulty with water supply; consumer, farmer and factory. :(
