'Raped' or not Bill I never had a problem with your chish and fips at the old place, and it sounds like FW is even better. 280 baht sounds OK as well - I can't remember what Chequers charge, probably quite a bit more now. Here in the UK its around £7 for 2 from the chippy - with peas - onions extra of course, so I don't know why folks complain about HH prices when they get to eat in a restaurant as well.
Tourists certainly won't flinch at that, especially for good quality, its just the usual thing that expats get used to noodle stall prices.
And why Richard went to Hull for fish and chips beats me! Hello Richard - we don't have trawlers these days! Even years back we went to Brid for decent fish.
Good luck Bill

What so many people dont realise that although salaries are cheap here, rents are not - the actual overheads involved in any serious business are pretty high.

On the fish and chip front - i havent tried Bills, but have tried the place called Cols, a wee left of just past the Hilton - the Cod was very good and the takeaway price was 220 baht i think. Is it worth 60 baht to sit down - pretty easy answer. As for the service in Bills, the staff were well above average. My steak was good the price, ok its expensive and is tourist price but look around, there are may places charging the same money.

We had about a dozen chippies back in england and out of the dozen 4 were excellent, the rest barely passable. Try making them it aint as easy!

OK, :offtopic: , please.
No room for humor, eh Dawn. I don't think women, as such, were mentioned. just a little word play, by some naughty old boys, boys will be boys! :D
spank me  I've got thick skin.

:offtopic:

On retrospect my piece of fish at YOBT, reminds me of Dover sole, thin cut, mushy, and tasteless. Could a been a mistake there? those Norwegians slipped something in on you, Bill?

btw, just how thick should a cut of cod for f&c's be?

Giving credit where do, the tarter sauce was quite good though. :thumb:

Hi Bill,
Was interested that you import fish from Norway.
For our restaurant here in Perth WA we use fish imported from Asia. Mainly Vietnam.
It is called "Royal Basa"and it has white firm flesh. Mild tasting.
We use it for curries and stir fries and the customers (and me ) love it.
I love fish and would use our locally caught products but the price is way out of our range.
Most Asian restaurants in Perth use "Nile Perch" imported from Africa.
I find the flesh mushy, brown and muddy tasting.

Hello, ozuncle we don’t actually import ourselves but buy from Bangkok, mainly foreign suppliers. Our Cod fish is (brand name Fiornord) from Norway, our Beef comes from Australia (brand name Lee Pratt Lean Clean Beef), Tasmanian Salmon, Aussie and NZ Lamb and so on. We do use local fish mainly Red Snapper, Barracuda and Prawns from the sea. We use no farmed fish or Prawns, only fresh from the Sea. We used to use a local farmed Tiger Prawns (no taste) also White Snapper, the Thais call it Pla Kapong khow, in Australia you know it by the name of Barramundi, but we found this fish to be a very earthy taste as you said muddy tasting, so we no longer use it. In some other restaurants and named Hotels it is said to be imported Barramundi or Sea Bass, in the local fish market it is sold for 150-180 per Kilo.
Do you have a web site? If so, I would like to look you up.
All the best Bill.

Yes the Barramundi tastes the same as the Nile Perch.
No website. Not sure if I can say the name but we are the only Thai restaurant in Mt. Hawthorn WA.

I love Barramundi!

Not in batter though!

Serve it simply with lemon butter, double cooked potato's with garlic and sea salt and a simple, well dressed side salad, and that will more than do for me. It would be nice to find a chilli or spiced free fish dish somewhere.

I can eat fish and chips as much as I like at home, can't imagine wanting it on my hols.

Hi Bill,

HHS here. had your F/C a while ago and posted about my experience. Went back and read the beginnings of this thread on your place and found this.

"We value your custom and also your constructive criticism and I would like to ask you to return to The Olde Buffalo Tavern and let us make amends by allowing me to offer you our Fish & Chips cooked by me personally and free of charge (my bill). "

Would like to take you up on that offer, if it still stands.

ref posts like this -

Please dont offer the free food anymore - its driving me crazy. You don't need to do it, if the people want to come let them. There is no perfect restaurant, particularly here in Hua Hin. You have a nice place and i understand the generous offer but some people cannot be pleased.

All the best

JW of course, you are right but, I said it and this time I will stand by it.

Plus I would like an answer to my question,

and a mandatory 10% service charge.
Hope you give it to the wait staff, Bill.
Don't buffalo us now.
Again, I don’t understand, what you are implying?
Who do you think gets the service charge???

So hhsimon you can get my phone number of our ad on HHAD and we can make a date see you soon.

And thanks again John.
