The victims images should not be publicised for sure but the suspects images should certainly be publicised to get the fecking shite off the streets and in jail!!

There is no problem Jimmy, publish them if you want to. Speaking as a member (not a moderator) I didn't want to.

If you were a suspect but innocent you and your family would be pretty upset to see your picture splashed everywhere. A child at school would be shown no mercy and if they don't find the perpetrator others will always wonder if it was you. Trial by media may provide titillation to the public and might alert to a possible threat but it could also produce copy-cat crime and destroy someone else's life. The media need to act responsibly. If the police suspect someone but can't find them, then by all means use the media. But if they have him in custody, then the media should only report that, without giving identifiable details, until charges are laid.

Is that not the point? The guy in question is still at large!

The photo of the suspect that I saw was issued by the police and was actually taken the last time he was taken into police custody, complete with police ID number. If the police issue his name and photo, to the press, they clearly need help from the public to find him. I stand by my original statement.

Nowadays in Oz some courtroom sketches are pixellated as are the arrested suspects. The age of PC is well and truly on us and who gives a damn about the victims??
No doubt in the future police will be looking for "someone"

I knew her... I only just now found out about what happened when this thread came back up. she was very beautiful and a happy person... she was just starting out in life. I thought she had just gone home or quit the bar when I did not hear from her... I can't tell you how sad this is...
