Re: The thing you miss the most?
Hey Pete, you reminded me... I think I still have a couple of those "banana hammock" Speedo swimsuits in a drawer around here somewhere that I used to wear under my wetsuit when scuba diving. I wonder if the missus would let be go outside in that... only problem is I've gained about 30 pounds since the last time I wore one of those.Try a loin cloth during the day

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Re: The thing you miss the most?
We get ridiculous swings in weather here in central Europe sometimes; less than two weeks ago it was -14C in the night and today it's about +10C.Yes, I miss the seasons, but if your from a place that has extreme weather I can understand why you wouldn't.
One thing I never missed during the six years I lived in SE Asia was hacking ice off car windscreens in the morning.
For what I did miss, I'll go along with Richard with a pint of good Bitter and an honest pub meal.
Re: The thing you miss the most?
Any time I've lived in a place that had snow and ice in the winter I had a home with a nice warm garage to park the car in.... no problem.... also after 1980 I always had a 4 wheel drive vehicle with all weather tires so no problem driving in it either. You just have to be prepared for cold weather and it's no problem at all; in fact it's fun! I really miss skiing, sledding, and snow snowmobiling. Snow covered days make really great photo subjects too, especially if you live where it snows overnight and then you have blue clear skies the next day.One thing I never missed during the six years I lived in SE Asia was hacking ice off car windscreens in the morning.
You guys just don't know how to enjoy cold weather.

I'm voting Kebab as well, proper English 2am drunk Kebab, extra everything, and then you can blame it for the vomiting.
"Sorry I was sick all over the bed love, I think I had a bad Kebab"
"Wouldn't be the fourteen pints and chasers would it?"
"Nah, They all tasted fine, so it couldn't be that."

Yes, I agree if you've got mountains and all that stuff. Here we don't get enough snow to do anything with and there are no mountains; this year it only lasted two weeks and now it's back to light rain. ( I've just cycled to work in it and it's not the sort of weather that you'd miss! )You just have to be prepared for cold weather and it's no problem at all; in fact it's fun!

Re: The thing you miss the most?
Have been an expat for most of my adult life, admittedly not in Thailand.
At first, I missed everybody and everything. I cried every Christmas and on birthdays.
Used to bring all sorts of nonsense back in my case after a visit home, newspapers, books, haggis, TCP, shampoo, cheese, still to this day I stock up on tea bags.
Nowadays, in the environment of the Global Village you can get almost anything anywhere.
And after a while I started to make do with what was in the local market.
However, I have to agree, there is nothing on this earth to compare with the good old Doner Kebab!
Or a Chinese Chicken Curry.

Re: The thing you miss the most?
Have you tried 'Pad Pong Galee'? It's a stir fired dish which tastes very close to a Chinese chicken curry, though the sauce is quite thick.
Apparently you can also get Keang Galee too, which is a curry that uses the same paste. Haven't tried it yet, so can't vouch for its taste.

You've been away too long. My winter still has bone chilling, shivering cold with the requirement to buy new winter coats for everyone and the nasty salt powder from the roads that gets on my cars, pants, shoes, and tracked into my house. Best of all is my (Thai) wife that will wear sweat pants, sweat shirt and another hoodie sweatshirt to bed with a down comforter on tophhfarang wrote:You guys just don't know how to enjoy cold weather....as I don't know how to enjoy hot weather.
