Yes, I seem to have got that bug as well.

Those kids seem happy and that is what matters most.

Ok, a quick update, we've contacted the four major Hua Hin print publications namely the Observer, Hua Hin Today, Hotline and AWOL. All have agreed to run a short feature on the project to give us more exposure and hopefully get some of those larger businesses and hotels donating computers or parts.

As you can see from the carnage below we've started on the third machine, though this one may have been already there so it needs re-conditioning:

This is also a common problem with cranky old machines ...

There are plenty of bits to swap out though so we'll get there in the end with a bit of perseverance. Thanks again to all that have donated parts so far, keep them coming.

We have one of their busted ones in working order again and ready to go back. It has a few mainboard problems such as failed USB ports, AGP & PCI slots and a RAM slot which means we could only get 128 megs of SDRAM into it. It has a 1.7 gig Celeron CPU though so is good enough for word processing, spreadsheets and basic stuff but not much else.

If anyone can drop it off at Barrys reply to this thread, we may have the other one working by then also - again problems with the memory by the looks of it.

We've got the other one working now also, XP was corrupted so I thought I'd give Windows 7 a go on it since it is supposed to run on older hardware (I'll do a review on W7 shortly).

It runs quite well so that'll be good for them to get their hands on the latest OS.

So if anyone can assist with the delivery of 2 machines back to the orphanage or Barry's place we'd be grateful.

I sense interest is waning for this project (as I'm mostly talking to myself in this thread) so we may put it on hold until we can drum up some response from the hotels, offices and businesses in Hua Hin - they must have loads of old spares they don't use.

Hi JG

You can drop them off at our place again if you want or we can meet you at the junction to the main road and take them.

Another batch of computers and components was collected from the HHHB shop this week so we're going to have a go at building another machine for the orphanage. Updates will be posted here.

Giving this a bump to let folk know that the project is still continuing, we have another Pentuim IV machine almost ready to go.

Please drop any (working) computer parts to the Hua Hin Ham & Bacon shop.

If anyone has any suggestions on other worthy causes that need computers or would like to help out please post here.

Hello Buksida,

I have read the threads about donating computers for a children in orphanages. My husband and I have one complete working system and one additional cve and keyboard. We really would like to give it to the children. We don't have a car. So we cannot bring it to you. Can you pick it up? Please PM for telephone number to make an appointment. We still have one week left in Hua Hin.

Regards, Hanneke and Jan from Holland.
