I almost spelled your Alias wrong not fft100 but ftse100 but I got it right the 1st Time!. WEll I guess the only Business that will be doing well would be them Hotels in which all of the Journalist staff being squezzed in and some Restaurants near them Hotels.
other than that nothing is going to do well in Hua Hin with this semi martial Law maesures to ensure deligates and it's guests safety.
Anyone have some News if Market Village will be open during the SEAN Summiit? And do you guys'n gals know if Night Market will be openas well?

Just returned from Bkk. .fastest trip ever. . .didnt have to stop for a single light. No road blocks in place yet ( Thursday morning) on main road. .but several places were set up for it. Tents etc. One near the army base had rows of riot police in full gear. . patiently sitting on plastic chairs under an awning.
Governments have spent a fortune in signage and flags. The flag and sign people made out like bandits on this ASEAN thing. EVERY walkway/overpass has big signs. There are full flag sets every few Kms. .we must have passed 20 or 30 of these.
MAJOR gardening going on, especially in front of and around Dusit. Acres and acres of potted plants, trees . . .they must have cornered the plant market! Many sidewalks now look like garden centers.The garden/ flower suppliers will also be able to retire after this.
"Nation" mentions 1500 registered journalists! That surprised me.
Funniest sign . . .addressed to ASEAN delegates: As you leave Cha Am headed north. In biggest letters

With one day to go before the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit, people in this coastal province believe the name of their resort district of Cha-am should be getting better recognition from the government.
They said they were disappointed at the government's announcement that the venue of the summit was Hua Hin district of Prachuap Khiri Khan, given the fact the Dusit Thani Hua Hin, the meeting venue, and Sheraton Hua Hin Resort and Spa, the press centre, are both located on the beachfront of Cha-am.
The issue has been raised by local people at several meetings since the government made the announcement two months ago.
They lodged complaints with Phetchaburi senator Sumon Sutawiriyawat, calling on her to raise the issue for debate in parliament.
The senator said she had received complaints from many local people who did not understand why the government used the name Hua Hin when the summit hotel and press centre were in another province.
"This is a big deal for the locals and it's my duty to correct the information to make the public understand correctly," Ms Sumon sad.
Despite her efforts, the government is still promoting Hua Hin as the venue.
"I get furious every time I hear reports that the 14th Asean summit will be held in Hua Hin district," she said. "That information is just not correct. I cannot accept it."
Ms Sumon said she had nothing to do with either hotel.
They probably used the name Hua Hin in their names to attract more tourists, but the government should disregard such concerns and provide correct information on the summit's location to the public, she said.
Lom Thienkaew, a cultural expert in the province who also serves as chairman of the Phetchaburi Province Mass Media Association, said he disagreed with the government's public relations campaign.
"It's like we are getting wrong information," Mr Lom said.
Most locals in Cha-am district felt "a little awkward and inferior" to Hua Hin people as a result of the government's announcement.
Cha-am locals were proud of their identity, given the difference in culture and traditions between the two districts. Still, it was not right, he said.
Mr Lom said he had raised the issue with provincial authorities and asked them to promote the province while the summit was in town.
He said some senior officers also questioned the government's intention but they did not know what to do.
Sompit Dangsathan, kamnan of tambon Huay Sai Nuea where the two hotels are located, said that villagers kept asking him about the government's public relations efforts. They knew well that the two hotels were not in Hua Hin, he said.
"It isn't the first time. I have got used to it but at the same time it's confusing," Mr Sompit said.
Every time the government has held an international meeting at five-star hotels in Cha-am, Hua Hin is always used as the name of the venue, he said.
Pratheep Jangsuwan, kamnan of tambon Khao Yai in Cha-am, said he disagreed with the thrust of the government's public relations campaign but could understand why they did it. The government opted to use the name Hua Hin as the venue was more popular than Cha-am. Hua Hin town is located about 25 kilometres from Cha-am town.

This is a side issue that has blown right up thanks to ASEAN . . .and that might be a good thing.
There should be some sort of restriction on the use of "Hua Hin" by these two hotels which are in Cha am. Common sense by the hotel management hasent prevailed. .and even though we can all understand the reasons for their use of the "Hua Hin" name, it is still deceptive advertising.
It is exactly like booking a hotel in NYC and finding out you are actually in Hoboken, New Jersey! Or planning your hotel stay in London only to find out on arrival that your "London" hotel is in Watford.
I have always wondered how many guests arrive and then realize that to get to town (Hua Hin) requires a seemingly endless and very expensive tuk-tuk ride both ways. I would be pissed!

If you wanted to book a hotel in Cha Am town and then found yourself next to Hua Hin, you might be equally disappointed.
In fact I lived in Hua Hin for quite a while before I was aware that Cha Am started the other side of the airport and not about ten kilometers north as I'd assumed.

I always thought that the hotels were much closer to Cha-am than HH. Maybe it's just my sense of distance? Oh yes, and in another province possibly. Where is the border exactly between Petburi and Prachab?
As crow flies Dusit about 16km's to Cha Am bus station area and 10km's to Hilton in Hua Hin ? About same from Petchakasem turn off's to respective beach roads. Even if it was the other way round you'd try to link yourself to the resort with the higher profile.

information/ impact lacking
Wishful thinking perhaps?To keep up to date with the latest news from the event click here [ ASEAN Summit comes to Hua Hin ] and to see how the meeting is affecting the town click here [ ASEAN Summit: the impact on Hua Hin ].
This leads me back to my earlier lament. .. .there IS no news from the event nor are we getting much news on how it is affecting the town.
We are still wandering around in the land of rumors with regard to both aspects here. We have not even got any sort of official or even second hand police bulletin as to what is or isnt prohibited.
Remember that old fable of the blind men asked to describe an elephant. .one feels only the foot, another the trunk, another the tail etc. . and none of them comes away with any idea what the elephant really looks like.
ASEAN seems to be our elephant and we are blindly holding on to one hair of the tail and trying to guess the nature of the beast from that.
