Surat Thani halts all island ferries as storms pound region
https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... und-region
SURAT THANI: All island ferry services were halted as ships and boats were ordered to remain ashore until at least Tuesday as storms whipped up high seas in the Gulf of Thailand.
The ban covered ferry services from Surat Thani to Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao and from Koh Tao to Chumphon.
Surat Thani governor Wichawut Jinto said on Monday that the suspension of services was a safety precaution as the Meteorological Department issued a storms and rough seas warning for the gulf.
"All ships are ordered not to leave districts located on the coast of the Gulf of Thailand, including ferries," the order said. It was in force until 5am on Tuesday.
The weather office said waves up to three metres high were expected in the southern region until Thursday.
The department's forecast is for rain, sometimes heavy, in most parts of the country, including Bangkok and adjacent provinces, until Thursday.

Been spot on where we are, literally hasn't stopped pissing down for a week down here (a lot more than they've reported in terms of volume).

The Mother of all storms in my area of Bangkok last night. Bloody roof drain cannot handle a big downpour, resulting in some water flooding into my Condo.

Rain pounds Bangkok, floods roads

Wednesday’s record rains in Bangkok cripple the centre of the city
https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/weather ... f-the-city
Wednesday night’s downpour wasn’t just torrential, it was record breaking. In fact it was the highest rainfall recorded in 67 years in some areas of the centre of the Thai capital. Even the 20 baht convenience store raincoats were no match for the torrential rain.
Rainfall measured at the Queen Sirikit Convention Centre in Khlong Toei district on Wednesday night was 132.5mm, surpassing the earlier record of 108mm on July 30th, 1955.
Over 100mm of rain poured into Khlong Toei and Bang Na, the central districts of Bangkok, on Wednesday evening, with more downpours predicted today and over the weekend.
In Khlong Toei district, which takes in the area south of Sukhumvit road to the Chao Phraya, rainfall was measured at 130.3mm, breaking a 26 year old record. And in Bang Na, 126mm was recorded, the heaviest in eight years.
In Min Buri district, north of Suvarnabhumi Airport, 165mm of rainfall was recorded for the whole day on Wednesday.
On Nut 71 and 39 were still under water during yesterday’s morning and afternoon peak, slowing traffic and forcing additional passengers onto the BTS.
Traffic in the Wattana business district was also crawling yesterday morning as both cars and foot traffic had to wade through the draining waters.
Passenger taxi boat in the east-west running Saen Saeb canal were also suspended with the water level rising so much that the boats were unable to pass under some of the lower bridges. The service was resumed later on Thursday.
Classes were suspended at the Ramkhamhaeng University, including the Ramkhamhaeng and Bang Na campuses.
Flooding isn’t new to Bangkok with each year promises made to ’solve’ the low-lying city’s long-term water inundation challenges. Apart from slowly rising levels of rain each year, the city is also slowly sinking into the Chao Phraya-delta mud. Bangkok, averaging only .5–2 metres above sea level, is sinking at a rate of 2–3 centimetres each year.

As of the moment (1630 hours August 10) the below link shows the tropical storm mess coming at us from the northeast, to collide with the monsoon coming from the southwest.
Could be a perfect storm for a few days. One can only hope for some excitement.

The storm is heading north west, not towards Thailand. It will probably dump some rain when it crosses the coast of Vietnam or southern China, and just reduce to a rain bearing depression.PeteC wrote: ↑Wed Aug 10, 2022 4:33 pm As of the moment (1630 hours August 10) the below link shows the tropical storm mess coming at us from the northeast, to collide with the monsoon coming from the southwest.Could be a perfect storm for a few days. All that it is doing now is sucking moist air from the west of Thailand, which will probably increase the rain here a bit.
