Prayut self isolates after Covid exposure at Phuket reopening

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/po ... -reopening

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha will isolate at home for a week after he came into close contact with a person who later tested positive for coronavirus during events held to mark the reopening of resort island Phuket to vaccinated foreign tourists.

The premier, who has received two AstraZeneca vaccine doses, will continue his work as usual, including closely following the coronavirus outbreak situation in the country, government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said on Monday.

“The prime minister has not tested positive for the virus so far, and will continue to conduct tests,” Mr Anucha said in a statement. “He will still carry out his duties as normal and will monitor developments closely.”

Gen Prayut's residence is at the 11th Infantry Regiment in Bang Khen district.

The premier’s self-isolation came after Veerasak Pisanuwong, the Surin Chamber of Commerce chairman, confirmed he had tested positive for the virus after attending the Phuket reopening ceremony with Gen Prayut on July 1.

Gen Prayut and several of his cabinet colleagues were in Phuket to welcome the first batch of vaccinated foreign tourists, who will not be required to undergo any quarantine as the country gradually seeks to reopen its borders and revive its economy. Thailand’s most-famous holiday destination has received 1,893 tourists since July 1, according to official data.

Thailand on Monday reported 6,166 new infections and 50 new deaths, which took total caseload and fatalities to 289,233 and 2,276, respectively. About 90% of the nation’s total infections are from the latest outbreak, which began early April. Bangkok remains the epicentre with the most daily cases reported each day.

Why on earth would someone from the Surin chamber of commerce be attending the Phuket sandbox opening? I think that can be classed as an unnecessary jolly. Did the Surin guy fly, or walk there? Terrible example by the filth that runs this Country.

Exactly, of course the generals and hi-sos can travel where they like, but the plebs are told to stay at home.

Thailand’s CCSA warns against domestic travel as Covid wave hits record high
With the number of Covid-19 patients now at a record high, and the fast-spreading Delta variant becoming more prevalent, health officials are urging people not to travel. During the daily press briefing by Thailand’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, a spokesperson said “the CCSA would like to urge everyone to avoid trans provincial travel at all costs.”

“And, if travel is necessary, we urge that the travellers isolate themselves and inform Village Health Volunteers or local health authorities of their arrivals as soon as they come to their destinations and observe the measures that have been announced by the provincial health authorities.”

Some provinces are requiring domestic travellers to be tested for Covid-19 before entering the province. Phuket as well as the islands off the coast of Surat Thani, Koh Samui, Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Tao, require travellers to show proof of a negative Covid-19 test result issued no more than 72 hours before arrival. Those who have received both doses of the Sinovac vaccine, or at least one dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine, can enter the islands without being tested.
