Just checked ThaiMet who report only 10mm for Hua Hin for yesterday(ie the 24 hours to 0700 this morning)

Again, I thought it would be a bit more than that but nowhere near Tuesday's figure

So 93+53 +10 =156mm last 3 days for Hua Hin.

I can well believe that you had more down there. Those boats in that marina need to be kept afloat!

I went to Market Village today via the back road which runs alongside the rail line and the roads which were repaired just recently were destroyed, all the repairs washed away, not done correctly anyway, really dangerous on a motorbike.

There is a low pressure area in the Andaman Sea to the west of Hua Hin, which Thai Met insist on calling a "westerly trough", and that it will move through north and upper north east of Thailand.

It is unlikely to do so, as there is the mother of all high pressure areas over most of China, with a central pressure of 1062 mm blocking it. The surface winds have now been forced even more to the west, south west, the result being some nice clean cool air that has even cleared away the smog in Bangkok.

The first hint that's been published concerning the approaching hot season and associated thunderstorms. I didn't experience anything below 17C this year, whereas 2020-21 we had 12C for a few nights where I am in the east.

"During 2 – 5 Mar, the heat low cell covers upper Thailand. Day hot will be occur over the country. The easterly wind that prevails over the Gulf and the South is also weaken. Less rain is likely in the South. During 6 – 7 Mar, another rather strong high-pressure system covers upper Thailand. The southerly and the southeasterly winds bring humidity from the South China Sea to cover the lower Northeast, the Central and the East. While the upper country is hot. Thunderstorm with gusty wind and hail is likely in the North, Northeast, the Central, the East including Bangkok and its vicinity. The easterly wind prevails over the South and the Gulf of Thailand will strengthen cause more rains in the South with isolated heavy rain."

Hua Hin had ELEVEN times the average monthly rainfall for February! (176mm versus 16mm)

The average monthly expected rainfall for March in Hua Hin is 54mm

The Meteorological Department announced on Wednesday morning that summer has officially arrived in Thailand and is expected to end in mid-May.

The change in season is signified by a switch in the prevailing wind direction in the upper part of the country, from northeasterly to southeasterly, the department said.

Upper Thailand could expect generally hot conditions this summer, with daily highs exceeding 35°C.

For now, the weather forecast is for sporadic rain with cool mornings to continue in the North and Northeast regions for a short while.

Summer began on March 2 and is expected to end in mid-May with another shift of the prevailing wind.

Only Thailand claims to be able to predict the weather and seasons 2.5 months in advance. The usual seasonal patterns have been all over the place over the past year and are beyond prediction IMO.

Summer storm warning

Summer storms are forecast for the Northeast from Sunday, moving to other areas including Greater Bangkok during the week.

The Meteorological Department warned on Friday that turbulent conditions - thunderstorms, gusty winds and some hail - were expected from Sunday to Tuesday in northeastern provinces.

The storms would slowly move into the northern, eastern and central regions. Bangkok and its vicinity could expect three days of storms.

The first storms of the summer season are being caused by a high-pressure area coming from China meeting with high temperatures in the kingdom, the department said.

Upper Thailand officially entered summer on Wednesday with a change in the prevailing wind.

The Royal Irrigation Department said on Thursday it had prepared for flooding during the storms.

The heavy rain forecast for next week comes after moonsoon downpours pounded the southern region last week, causing flooding in all provinces along the Gulf of Thailand.

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department said on Friday that Pattani was the only province still flooded - in Muang, Mai Kaen, Nong Chik and Sai Buri districts - but water levels were receding.

Technically they were correct, although (so far) not as much rain as predicted, still better than nothing at this time of year.
