Your first comment is inaccurate, I agree with your second, Southgate is reactive, not proactive. But he's delivered three semi finals appearances out of four in the Euros. France are through without having scored a goal in open play yet, win ugly or go home?

I'm impressed that some of you were online chatting at well past 2.00 am, I was off to bed after the interviews, when the talking heads started....

Spain have replaced England (now second favourite) as bookie's bet for the trophy, although at this stage all odds are shortening anyway.

Personally, I didn't think they played well, but there were glimpses of improvement. As long as they peak for the final, I will be well happy.

They played much better, which is not the same. Woeful is not accurate, although poor or under par would be acceptable. As I said below, they are still second favourites to win, a good defence and team play are keys to grinding out wins against top teams in this tournament.

Exactly - way back in 1966 England peaked in the Final so who’s to say that history won’t repeat itself?

Back in ‘66 Sir Alf had the vision (balls) to replace Jimmy Greaves with Geoff Hurst and we all know what happened - just can’t see Southgate doing the same with Kane-Gordon!!

We'll have to agree to differ. I didn't think they played much better. We scored with our first shot on target with a few minutes remaining. I personally class that as woeful, as was the wasteful sideways and backwards passing. One of our corners ended up with pickford, for gawd's sake! And why does his name always remind me of Norman Wisdom????

The Swiss goal was long coming, almost inevitable and could have been avoided with a tactical substitution or two, but instead, we continued to labour until the goal was conceded. But as already noted, that's when we shift up a gear - why? The 3 subs made a big difference, maybe if Southgate knew how to employ subs, we could actually win a game, instead of keep drawing, thus avoiding two tiring bouts of extra time.

I really hope England win, and win well, but I have a feeling that if we do succeed, that we will be remembered as one of the worst teams to be Champions, and I think that will be deserved. But let's see what happens next. We can't keep clutching victory from the jaws of defeat.

Most people are saying the same thing - that they want to see England playing better and we all have our views on team selection and use of substitutes, but at least they are somehow managing to avoid defeat.

One things for certain, if they continue to play as they are and manage to lift the trophy, Southgate will be hailed a hero and will receive his knighthood!!

I’m sure that win or lose he’ll be gone by the end of this campaign - a bit like Prime Ministers, time for a new one!!

I don't think the FA can afford either!
